3198 Special Release 30 September, 2013 CELEBRATING THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (ISI} @ 50 The International School, University of Ibadan, blazed the trail in private secondary school education in Western Nigeria, with its establishment in October 1963. The initial funding for the take-off of the school was facilitated by grants from United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation and the old Western Region Government. The School was established to meet the standard of high schools in Europe and America and since then, it has been growing in leaps and bounds. It has produced notable graduates who are occupying enviable positions, virtually in all fields of human endeavour both in Nigeria and in the diaspora. Also, the School has won outstanding laurels in recent times, among which are: i. 2013 Fashola Ifeoluwapo (female, SS3, 2012/2013) earned A1 distinction in all nine subjects she sat for, at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASCE). This has placed her in good stead to compete for the coveted prize of the Best Candidate in the 2013 WASCE; ii. iii. iv. 2013 - Aghotor Esther (female, SS2, 2011/2012) won the 1st prize of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Foundation Art Competition in Abeokuta, Nigeria; 2012 - Iselowo Olamide, (female, SS2, 2011/2012) came 2nd in Oyo State, in the Cowbell National Secondary School Mathematics Competition (Senior Category); 2010 Iselowo Olamide (female, JS2, 2008/2009) 9th position in the Cowbell National Secondary School Mathematics Competition (Junior Category);
v. 2009 - Adisa Temitayo (female, SS3, 2008/2009) won a gold medal in the 2009 Nigerian Mathematics and Sciences Olympiads; vi. vii. viii. 2009 - The School basketball team won the second edition of the South West Zonal Private Secondary Schools Basketball Championship; 2008 Adisa Temitayo (female, SS2, 2007/2008) 2nd position at the Cowbell National Secondary School Mathematics Competition (Senior Category); 2004 Opeyemi Ogunlade won the Best Candidate prize in the 2004 West African Secondary Certificate Examination.
