ISSUE 1, February 1 2018 FROM THE PRINCIPAL S DESK I would like to welcome everybody to Bletchley Park Primary School for the start of the 2018 school year. A special welcome is extended to all of our new students and their families who have commenced at our school. In addition to many new students starting we have quite a number of new teachers commencing this year. In 2017 we saw a fair number of staff take the opportunity to move to the new school. In addition several staff were promoted to other schools and others won positions through merit selection to other schools. This is a clear indication that staff at this school are highly sought after. 2018 TERM DATES Term 1: 31 Jan 13 April Term 2: 30 April 29 June Term 3: 16 July 21 Sept Term 4: 08 Oct 13 Dec As many of you were aware I was seconded to work in Central Office as part of the Principal s Professional Support Team from September 2016.This was a highly valued state wide support program for newly appointed Principals. One week I would be visiting the Principal at Jigalong Remote Community School and the next week working with the Principal at Munglinup Primary School near Esperance. Unfortunately funding ran out and the program was closed. It is really nice to be back at Bletchley Park Primary School. I feel like I have come home. Communication with Parents We have a number of ways to communicate with our parents. One of the key strategies we use is this Newsletter. Newsletters are published each fortnight. We also have our official school Facebook page which is useful for communication between Newsletters. Finally we have a school website. There is a great deal of important information contained on our website. The Start of the Day I understand that at the start of the year, getting back into a routine can be difficult; however, it is important that your child is in class by the first siren at 8:30 am. Arriving late to class can be unsettling for your child. It certainly unsettles the rest of the students. Term Planner A copy of the Term Planner is attached to this Newsletter and can be found on the School Website. This document is a very useful reference for upcoming events at Bletchley Park Primary School. BE THINK GROW

CHAPLAIN NEWS Bletchley Park PS has a school chaplain, Mrs Diane Thoomes, working each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Thoomes is employed by Youthcare. She is part of our Student Services Team and is able to provide social and emotional support to students and members of the wider school community. Last year Mrs Thoomes also ran the Rainbows Program to support students with family change, especially those students experiencing grief and loss. She also ran the Drumbeat program which supports students emotionally and teaches cooperative skills. At Bletchley Park PS the Chaplain provides non-religious support to all families, regardless of their faith. Students can be referred to the chaplain by their parents, teachers and even the students themselves. We work on an opt-out system at Bletchley Park PS. Please contact Josie Millwood, one of the Deputy Principals if you have concerns about your child seeing the chaplain. This can be done by email, Josie.Millwood@education.wa.edu.au or by writing via the school office. If parents wish to contact Mrs Thoomes to refer their children, her email address is dianet@youthcare.org.au LIBRARY NEWS

SCHOOL BANKING NEWS The school banking program provides children with an opportunity to save money each week at school. The program is about how often your child makes deposits NOT how much they deposit. Every deposit earns them a silver token, and once they ve collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for a reward. Please note students can only bank ONCE a week. Banking Start Week 2 School banking will re-commence on Wednesday 7th & Thursday 8th February 2018 in Week 2. If you are interested in helping with school banking on either a Wednesday or Thursday morning, please contact Kerry at kerrymailbox@gmail.com. You do not need to be a member of the P&C. School banking is not only teaching a valuable life skill to those that participate but also contributes to the school s resourcing. Last year, with 3,400 deposits made by our bankers, the Commonwealth Bank paid over $2,000 to Bletchley Park Primary. This commission was earned on deposits made by the students and new accounts activated at Bletchley.
