MOTHER TERESA Catholic Primary School, Ormeau Principal: Peter Kerrins 169 Eggersdorf Rd, Ormeau Q 4208 Ph: 07 5549 5000 Fax: 07 5549 5001 Email: pormeau@bne.catholic.edu.au W W W. M O T H E R T E R E S A. Q L D. E D U. A U From The Principal s Desk Term 3 2018 Dear Parents Wednesday 5th September Today we celebrate the feast Day of Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to the poor and unwanted, the forgotten people of the world, despite being born to a wealthy family and having a much more comfortable life, should have she stayed in her native Bulgaria. It is just a shame that her death in 1997 was in the same week as Princess Diana, which really prevented much of the recognition and acknowledgement of her work, even though that is not what motivated her. Thursday 20th September Liturgy hosted by Year 1 Thank you to everyone who recently completed a BCE Listens survey; we will be drawing the winner of our carparking space at Friday s assembly. Congratulations also to our year three children, who last week took an important step in their faith journey by being confirmed at St Patrick s church. Congratulations also to our newly elected co-captain of Blue House, Brady. Brady has only been with us since the start of this term, but he has made a strong impression on all staff and students, and they have entrusted him with this position for the remainder of the year. Well done, and congratulations Brady! Every year, the school engages in a period of self review, basing our achievements against Brisbane Catholic Education s Strategic Plan. This year, we are moving to reporting against the new National School Improvement Tool. In the tool, there are nine categories or Domains, that we measure ourselves against. To get a full, well rounded view of our strengths and areas of need, we would love some parent input, and we would like to offer; The parent input sessions, each of around two hours. These sessions will be held on Wednesday 13 September 6.00pm 8.00pm Thursday 14 September 9.00am 11.00am Thursday 14 September 1.00pm 3.00pm All sessions will take place in the school library. We will provide tea, coffee, and morning tea, afternoon tea or hot finger food depending on the time of the session. A children s movie will be played in an adjacent room for those who have pre-schoolers with them. To make it worth your while, each family who participates will go into a draw to win a term s school fees! That is, no fees at all for next term! To assist with our planning, could you please put your name down on a sign on sheet at the office for your chosen session, or e-mail your name a selected session to pormeau@bne.catholic.edu.au A reminder of our Trivia night on Saturday night. We still have plenty of spaces available, so get your names in to the office by Thursday afternoon so we can ensure everything and everyone is catered for. Remember that you can enter into our Cent Sale in the library, regardless of whether you are attending the Trivia Night, so be sure to drop into the library on Thursday or Friday morning to enter into the draw! Both Ms Massey and myself will be accessing some overdue Long Service Leave in the last week of this term, and for the first week of term 4. Mr Torenbeek will take over as Acting Principal in my absence, and Mrs Belinda Farell will take over the responsibilities of the Year Six class during Ms Massey s absence. Peter Kerrins Principal

APRE News St Teresa of Calcutta Feast Day 5th September This week we celebrate the Feast of St Teresa of Calcutta. The children have participated in a variety of experiences throughout the week to remember the example that Mother Teresa gave us of showing God s love. On the 5th September 1997, Mother Teresa died in Calcutta, India. Her holiness and her love for the poor were known all over the world. Tens of thousands of men and women, who join in her work, are called the Missionaries of Charity. They serve the sick and dying who have no one ever to care for them, bringing God s love to forgotten corners of crowded cities. Mother Teresa made a solemn promise to give wholehearted and authentic service to the poorest of the poor. She was canonised as Saint Teresa of Calcutta on 4th September 2016. Liturgy of the Word On Thursday the 6th of September, Year 1 will host this prayer celebration. We look forward to seeing you then. REMINDERS: Thursday 6th Sept - Gold coin donation for "Dress Like a Farmer Day where students wear their best farming gear and with proceeds to be given to a school in a highly effected drought area of Qld and; Across the week - Sock drive for those who are homeless and/or lacking funds to purchase the bare essentials in the Beenleigh area. Families are asked to bring in a pair of socks (preferably new but any pair that is clean and in good condition). Ben Torenbeek APRE Dress like Farmer SOCK DRIVE

Drop off and Pick up Procedures Please remember that students are asked to line up in the undercover area each morning at 8:25am to meet their teacher who will take them across to their classroom. Students are reminded that when they arrive at school, children should remain seated. Supervision is provided after 8:10am in this area. Parents can support this process by moving to the tuckshop area or the back of the undercover area after their child has found their class line. Children who arrive earlier than 8:10am must be supervised by their parent or will need to enrol in before school care. After school supervision is provided at the pick up area until 3:10pm. Parents who are unable to collect their child by this time will need to make arrangements with Outside School Hours Care. We encourage all families to enrol their children in the Outside School Hours Care so in the case of an emergency the children will be registered to attend. There is no cost to register and families will only be charged when the service is used. Outside School Hours Care Forms are available from the school administration office (between 8.00am and 3.00pm) or the Outside School Hours building (before 9.00am or after 2.30pm). BAZZA S GARDENING TIPS BULB PLANTING TIME These bulbs can be planted now: Dahlias, gladioli, lilium and hippeastrums. Dahlias, gladioli and lilium need to be placed in the soil and completely covered. It is important to plant hippeastrums correctly. The bulb should be planted with 1/3 of the bulb above the soil. Hippeastrum bulbs are expensive so they must be planted the correct way. Bulbs range in price from $22.00 up to $69.00. After planting sprinkle some snail bait around the bulbs as snails love the new green leaves.
