We received the highest rating, and qualified for Regional Festival. The performance was Friday at 8:15 pm. Our students needed to learn a new piece of music to play at this Festival, which they did and performed beautifully. The criteria are harder at the Regional level, with only the best groups qualifying to perform. Pacifica received a Superior rating, which is the highest possible. We also performed at Music in the Parks choir competition on Saturday at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Varsity Choir placed 2nd in the Women s division, Acapella placed 3rd in the Mixed division, and Encore placed 1st in the Show Choir division. Encore also received the Overall award for being the top rated choir in all divisions. It was a fantastic way to closeout our competitive choir season! Please congratulate these fine musicians when you see them! Pacifica Pride 1

Pacifica AP Psycholars Bring the Psych Bowl Home! Friday, May 1 was an amazing evening for our AP Psychology students! Every year, on the Friday before the AP Psychology Exam, GGUSD schools that offer AP Psychology participate in the "Psych Bowl". The Psych Bowl is an academic competition designed to help students prepare for the exam, and for the winning school to take home the coveted Psych Bowl Cup. Each school begins preparing from the start of the school year, and comes up with their own team jersey. This year's jersey features a parody of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album cover, but sports "Pink Freud" instead. They are very popular at PHS! The first round of the Psych Bowl is verbal responses to Power Point questions. The Psycholars led by two at intermission. In the second round, questions are more challenging, and students must have their responses written on white boards. Our Mariner Psycholars struggled and found themselves down by five to Bolsa Grande near the end of the competition. This was not acceptable to our students, and in a dramatic, comefrom-behind rally, our students confidently stepped up, rattled off a series of correct responses and surprised everyone, winning by two questions! It was very exciting, a lot of fun, and a life memory for our Psycholars. Way to go Mariners!! Pacifica Pride 2

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ NEWS FROM THE DRAMA DEPARTMENT We are so excited to share that Pacifica's production of Alice in Wonderland was invited to perform a selection on the Segerstrom stage for the M.A.C.Y. Awards on May 31 at noon. We are beyond excited and beyond proud of our Musical Theatre Students!! From a field of 42 schools and 52 Musicals, WE got chosen. Join us if you can!!! On another just as exciting note, The Diary of Anne Frank has been nominated for 3 awards with the Cappie program. The Cappie program is a critic award program that originated on the Capital Steps in Washington. Our critics view other schools' productions and we in turn have them review our shows. In short, we have been nominated and the students will dress to the nines to find out the winners at a GALA presentation on Sunday, June 7 at 4:30 pm. Our nominees are Marisa Shlichtman for Lead Actress in a Play for Anne, Pierre Ekladios for Lead Actor in a play for Otto Frank and Marisa and Brett Beard for their Marketing and Publicity campaign (that resulted in a sell out on Friday night).
