K/1 with Mrs Simm We are doing some great learning in our class. Sight word lists have been sent home and it is hoped that each child will be able to recognise all words by the end of K/1. We are all on our way which is exciting. Most students are involved in home reading, please see me if books are not being changed regularly. We are looking forward to our Geography excursion next Tuesday. In Science we looked at how water can be destructive in a fascinating experiment. Please see photos. Life Education visited our school and we looked at Body Matters and met Harold. He was a bit naughty but we had lots of fun. Keep up the great work K/1. You make me so proud!!!!

up in such a way. In Science, we tested our packaged goods and dropped them from heights of up to two metres! Congratulations to Hamish, Blaze and Naomi for successfully packing their china bowl so that it didn t break from any time after repeated drops. We have started a new topic called Light Shows! We were lucky to have Life Education visit our class to talk about Relate, Respect and Connect. We spoke about building safe and respectful relationships and the importance of positivity when interacting with other people. Year six students, Jade, Josh and Molly, also had the opportunity to say goodbye to Harold. 2/3 with Mr Agnew Students have been continuing to understand informative texts and how they go to together. They are grasping the importance of topic sentences and hooks to get the reader in. Maths has been all about addition this fortnight, with some students progressing onto adding with decimals. Well done to Baylie and William who were awarded most improved at their times tables the last two weeks. In the pictures below students were enjoying learning about safety in the Life Education van which came on Tuesday. Chase correctly pointed out some parts of the anatomy and William put some vital safety equipment into the camping bag Olivia is holding. Sport Our first week of AFL has started and we went through some basic skills with handling the ball and kicking from the ground. Good luck to all the students who are competing in the Zone Athletics carnival, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Miss Shannon 4/5/6 with Miss Shannon In English, the students have started their informative texts. They have chosen a topic of their choice and have been busy researching and selecting information to suit their subheadings. In Maths, they have been working hard on their patterns and algebra and they are working out timetables and calendars to do with the topic of time. In Geography, they have studied the world map and identified the continents and the equator and have discussed why the continents were divided

P&C News The last P&C meeting was postponed until Monday 13 th August 6pm, everyone is welcome. A big thank you to the Pelican RSL. Pelican RSL is a major supporter of Pelican Flat PS, once again they have been very kind with the annual Club Grant. This money will go to towards 2 new bbqs and a new gazebo with the school logo for sporting events. Thank you to everyone who supported the pie drive. We are happy to announce the P&C made $400. Canteen News Don t forget to purchase your reusable lunch order bag from the office $10 each. We are currently working on the best way to order with these bags, so please bare with us. Currently if you could please write your fruit break, recess & lunch on a separate piece of paper and remember to write your name on each. We have had a few concerns that this way is wasting paper, so why not write your orders out at home and use recycled paper from used envelops, school note or any scrap paper. Gardening Club Term 3 Dates (from 11am): 31 st August 28 th September If you would like to make a donation towards this toiletries drive please drop off your donation to the front office. We will collect items until Week 5 this Term. For any questions please see Felicity (Zoey s Mum).
