What Does this Mean? Required Courses: Classes that are required for graduation as set by the state and/or school district. i.e. English, Math, Science, Phy Ed, etc. Electives: Courses that are not required by the state or school district. The courses enhance your education and focus on your interests/career aspirations (can be in core areas). i.e. Spanish, Choir, Art, Technology & Engineering, etc. Prerequisites: Course need to take prior to electing this course. All classes with a prerequisite are listed in the coursebook (noted with * on course selection sheet). i.e. Outdoor Power & Motorsports requires Small Engines first. UW System: Do I need to take Spanish? - UW Madison: Two years of one foreign language required - UW Milwaukee, UW Parkside, UW Platteville: Foreign language is not required but is strongly recommended. Mathematics Typical order of classes: 9 th grade: Algebra 10 th grade: Geometry 11 th grade: Algebra II or Advanced Algebra 12 th grade: If Algebra II FST; If Advanced Algebra PreCalc, AP Stats, or FST Teachers will be signing recommendation sheets for any students who are already at the High School for next school year Any specific questions that you have regarding your child, please contact your child s current or most recent math teacher Graphing calculators? The sooner your child has a graphing calculator, the more useful the calculator will be to your child. We recommend students get a TI83 or TI84 for Algebra 1 so that it can be used in later classes.
