Report of Activities August 2017-March 2018 Introduction Centre on Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat is carrying out various activities involving various stake holders in Higher Education across the country to create awareness among general Public of the necessity for cleanliness and healthy living. As per the instructions of the Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu and from the UGC, the following activities have been undertaken under the Swachhta Hi Seva programme. Programmes / Activities Under the Swachhta Pakhwada and Swachhta Hi Seva Programme, there are two types of activities Awareness Generation Programmes and Action oriented programmes carried out by the University. Again these activities were organized on campus as well as other villages as on outreach activities. On campus, the programmes like Awareness Generation among the students and action oriented Programmes - cleaning of the campus, Tree Plantation and various competitions have been organized. Under the outreach activities, creation of Awareness among the public and school students and cleaning of public places like Railway station, Government Hospitals and School and Temple premises have been covered. 1.Tree Plantation in the University Campus Based on the communication from the UGC, New Delhi and Tamil nadu Government, Swachhta Hi Seva Programme was carried out in the Alagappa
University from 15 th September to October 2 nd 2017 in order to create awareness among the students about the cleanliness and action plan for cleanness activities. In the first step, a high level committee consisting of Registrar, Syndicate members, Deans and Professor and Heads was formed to monitor the activities to be carried out for about two weeks. The Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University Prof. Dr.S.Subbiah has launched mass Tree Plantation programme within our University campus as a first activity to mark the celebration of seventeenth years of Independence. In this programme, the Registrar Dr. V. Balachandran, NSS Coordinator and programme officers were participated. As an effort to start the mass tree plantation, the Vice-Chancellor has initiated the Tree plantation at two places, one at the Physical Education College campus and another at the Department of Mathematics. About 1,500 saplings have been planted in a single day at two places.
2.Cleaning Activities in the Campus On 18 th September 2017, the Registrar Dr.V.Balachandran and Dean Research Dr.T.R. Gurumoorthy has initiated the cleaning activity in front of Administrative building. By means of this, 1/2 km length of sideways road leading to the University was cleaned with the involvement of 10 units of NSS volunteers. During the cleaning work, Students were instructed to plug partheenium plant and other small plant only without damaging the grasses to prevent the soil erosion.
On 19 th September 2017, the Cleaning activities were carried out in front of Chemical Sciences Annexure Building. The Member of Syndicate, Dr. A. Narayanamoorthy, Professor and Head, Department of Economics alongwith the NSS volunteers the cleaning work has been carried out. 3.Awareness and Competitions Dr.S.Thambidurai, Coordinator, Centre on Swachh Barat, Alagappa University gave awareness lecture to the students about the importance of Swachhta Hi Seva
programme and the activities carried out / planned under this programme covered during two weeks. Essay contest was carried out by issuing a circular through Registrar s letter of communication with the guidelines and theme. This programme was conducted by Dr.K.Manimekalai, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Special officer Dr.M.Senthil. More than 100 students were took part in this contest conducted at various places. Elocution contest was carried out by proper communication as was done to the essay contest. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. B. Vaseeharan, Professor and
Head, Department of Animal and Health management. In his inaugural address he pointed out about the importance of cleanness and the Government of India s effort to bring the India as Clean India and health India. In this programme more than 75 students took part from various disciplines with enthusiasm and spoke more about their role to future clean India.
4.Hostels, Class room Cleaning Campaign A mass cleaning programme was carried out at all the hostels simultaneously under the supervision of respective wardens and deputy wardens. This programme was coordinated by Chief Warden Dr. A. Sakhthivel. 5. Corridar and Lab Cleaning To encourage the students to keep their class rooms and offices with clean, Cleaning of offices by staff and students activity as was mentioned in the Swachhta Hi Seva action plan was initiated by Dean of Science Dr. G. Paruthimal Kalaignan.

Class room Cleaning 7.Toilet Cleaning and Awareness Programme in the Campus Demonstration given to the Girl and Male Students by University Sanitary workers 8.Awareness on Denque prevention As part of the Government of Tamil Nadu, an effort was taken by the University to create awareness about the prevention of Denque, Nilavembu Kasayam was provided to public. This was initiated by Dr.K.Gurunathan, Member of Syndicate.
9.Cleaning of Public Places and Villages As part of the Swachchtra Hi Seva programme, staff and students of Alagappa University visited nearby local places to hold hygiene sensitisation programme and explained the Govt. of India initiatives regarding hygiene sensitisation programme. (a) Cleaning at Government Hospital and Temple.
(b).cleaning at Temple at nearby villages. (Kandanur and Selugai) (c) Dental camp organized at the Village (Selugai) 10. Closing Ceremony and Certificate Distribution Awards and certificates distribution function was organized in the University Convocation Seminar hall. The Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University Prof.S.Subbiah distributed the certificates after delivering a speech about the activities carried out by the Centre on Swachh Bharat and swasth Bharat. Finally he congratulated and appreciated the participants.
11. Awarness programme on Health and Hygiene In order to create among the girls students about their health and hygiene, an awareness programme on Health and Hygiene for Girls Students was conducted on 13.3.2018. The Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University Prof.S.Subbiah, inaugurated the program and Dr.T.S.Sangeetha, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist, Apollo Reach Hospital, Karaikudi delivered special address.
12. Awarness programme on Problems in Adolescent Girls In order to create among the girls students about their health and hygiene, an awareness programme on Common problems in Adolescent Girls was conducted on 23.3.2018. The Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University Prof.S.Subbiah, inaugurated the program and Dr.T.S.Sangeetha, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist, Apollo Reach Hospital, Karaikudi delivered special address. @@@@@@@@@
