September 13, 2018 Hello Cedar Creek Families, We hope this school year is off to a great start. We want to make sure you are aware of some important changes and information and share our Guidance Dates for the first Trimester. AP Testing Update Students currently enrolled in one of our 15 Advanced Placement Courses will go through a new process for registering for the AP Exams which will be administered this Spring. September-October: Students sign up for AP Classrooms through each class they are enrolled in at CCHS October 4th: Deadline for students to register for AP Exam (registration forms mailed home) November 15th: Deadline to modify or add to AP Order (Any tests ordered or cancelled after this deadline will incur a $40 charge) Dual Credit Update Cedar Creek students are earning college credit while in high school! We currently offers 22 courses that are eligible for Dual Credit through the following colleges and universities. Each college has its own registration process and cost, so please be on the lookout for information if your student is enrolled in one of the following classes: Stockton University: AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, Pre Calculus, AP Environmental Science, HNS French 3, HNS French 4, HNS Spanish 3, HNS Spanish 4, HNS Digital Video Editing, Film Production, Conscience of Mankind Seton Hall University: HNS German 3, HNS German 4 Atlantic Cape Community College: HNS French 3, HNS French 4, Psychology, Forensics, Probability and Statistics, HNS Linear Algebra Rowan College Burlington County: AP Statistics, AP Language and Composition, AP Macroeconomics, AP US History, AP Government and Politics National Honor Society Application Information Juniors & seniors will be considered for selection into the National Honor Society (NHS) based upon their weighted cumulative GPA at the end of the first trimester. After the holiday break, eligible students who meet the GPA requirement will be notified of the NHS application process. Entrance into the NHS is conferred upon students by the faculty in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The selection committee is composed of faculty members selected by the principal as prescribed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Criteria for selection into NHS: Scholarship: Students must have a minimum weighted grade point average of 90 at the end of the first trimester of their junior or senior year. Service: The candidate will show willingness to help others in the group that are less gifted, volunteer his/her talents toward the attainment of group goals, and perform work without regard to reward. Leadership: The candidate will demonstrate the ability to motivate others, set the appropriate examples, and establish consistency in leading a group. Character: The candidate will be honest, trustworthy, respectful and tolerant of others, and be a pleasant and positive individual.
Dates to Remember (all events listed below begin at 6:30 PM in the PAC unless otherwise noted) Senior Night: Thursday, September 27th Parents and Guardians are invited to attend and hear about The College Application Process. Learn about College Application timelines and deadlines and what students and families need to do in order to apply. Cedar Creek Scholars Night: Thursday, October 4th Our sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are being recognized as Varsity Scholars and Distinguished Varsity Scholars are invited to attend this annual ceremony. Letters and Invitations are in the mail! PSAT Testing: Wednesday, October 10th The PSAT will be given to all sophomores and juniors FREE of charge. The PSAT is the practice test for the SAT and will help prepare students for college admissions, increase student achievement, and access programs that can assist with test prep as well as career and college exploration. We will run 3 Free College Fair Trips for Juniors and Seniors! Students will have the opportunity to sign up through our Guidance Department as dates approach. College Fair @ Absegami High School: Friday, October 26th National College Fair @Atlantic City Convention Center: Thursday, November 1st HBCU College Fair @ BB&T Pavilion: November 13th Financial Aid Workshop: November 1st at 6:30 PM in the CCHS Library Seniors and parents/guardians can attend and leave with their FAFSA COMPLETE!! Get It Done! Workshop: Tuesday, November 13th at 2:45 pm in the Guidance Office Seniors can attend and receive assistance with: College and/or Job Applications, Resumes and any supporting documents.. The is the first of 4 Workshops being offered throughout the school year. AP Scholars Breakfast: Wednesday, November 21st at 9 am in the CCHS library We will invite and honor our AP Scholars with a breakfast and Awards Presentation ASVAB Testing: Tuesday, November 27th at 7:45 am in the cafeteria This is the test for students interested in the military. Students in grades 10-12 can sign up in Guidance. Success is where preparation and opportunity meet. ~Bobby Unser
