December 2018 Sir James Douglas Elementary School News 2150 Brigadoon Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V5P 3Z7 Tel: 604-713-4817 Fax: 604-713-4819 Chers parents et guardians, December was a very busy month culminating with two public events during the last week. On Monday, December 17 th, the choir from the «after school David Thompson community activities team» performed with five small bands of grade 6/7 students. It was a musical magic night. On Wednesday night, the gymnasium was «crowded» twice to see our students delivered their performances of singing/dancing/sharing the spirit of the holiday season. A great thank you to the staff that spent hours to prepare the students to perform. We also want to acknowledge the work of all the volunteers for contributing to make these events a special time for our community. Mr. Granek and many volunteers took the time to make the gymnasium a very special place with all the decorations and the use of a professional sound system. We are grateful for your very extraordinary participation to these events; it was great to be part of the Douglas community. A special thank you and much appreciation to our winter concert committee super organizer Ms. Mota and maestro extraordinaire M. Tin Tun. Merci beaucoup! We would like to say «Mille mercis» to Madame Svetlana Ivezic and Madame Ainslie Kwan, our office administrative assistants for the huge contribution they have made over the last few years to make our school a very welcome and safe environment for all students and staff. They are continuing their adventure in a new school in January. Madame Julie Koyanagi will be at our school in January. On a happy note to finish 2018, many events have taken place and were very successful in the past few weeks. We wish everyone a joyful and happy holiday season. When you are with your family, your relatives and friends, play safely in the sun, the rain or the snow and continue to take care of each other. Mr Daniel and Madame Zeitz Dear parents, It is always time to discuss safety with your child or children. In speaking with your children about personal safety the following key reminders are suggested: 1. Walk to and from school with their parent/ caregiver, friend, or a group of friends. 2. Avoid talking with adults who are not known to them. Always tell a trusted adult, such as a parent or member of the school staff, about any unusual or suspicious activities. Parents wishing further resources or information can visit Canadian Center for Child Protection. at https://www.protectchildren.ca/en/ Sir James Douglas Elementary 2018/19 Bell Schedule Warning Bell 8:55 am Start of the day Recess Lunch time End of the day 9:00 am 10:30 10:50 am 12:10 12:57 pm 3:00 pm
