Ice Skating Apologies for the students being unable to hit the ice last week. I did receive a phone call 2 days before saying an ice hockey tournament was on and we couldn t attend for week 1. With the students all ready to go and so excited I was very disappointed. Our only option was to attend and watch the ice hockey and use the time to get skates fitted. This was the best option as buses were already booked and it was too late to cancel. It was also a great experience for the students to get fitted, watch an ice hockey game and familiarise themselves with the venue. Sorry again, Mrs Jackson Year 5 Selective High School application ( Year 7 2019) Students in Year 5 have received information regarding applying for a selective high school for 2019. The information flyer can also be sighted at the back of this chalkboard. If you would like to discuss this further please don t hesitate to contact the school. Mrs Ramsay LIBRARY NEWS If any lovely parent, grandparent is able to sew material library bags for our Kinder students for next year, Mrs Robinson has material in the library that has been donated for this cause. Please see her if you could use this material. Scholastic Bookclub Hi all, our first bookclub catalogue for this term (Issue 7) went home with your child today. If you haven t received it, you can also view it online at http:// www.scholastic.com.au/schools/bookclub/. EVERY book purchased through Scholastic raises money for our school, so why don't you jump online and order a new book for your child for term 4, there are some for as little as $2. All orders are due in by next Friday, the 27th October via scholastics online ordering system, LOOP www.scholastic.com.au/loop. If for any reason you are unable to utilise this system, you can fill out the order form in the catalogue and return it to the office with either a cheque or money order made out to Scholastic Australia (Sorry No Cash). Happy ordering, and give me a call if you have any problems. Rachel 0420362 Term 4 Basketball starts this week This term we have two Rookies Thursday afternoon teams - Heat and Hawks. Our senior mixed school team will play our first game this Friday afternoon. Competition draws are on the Newcastle Basketball website. Best of luck to all teams for an enjoyable competition. Yr 5 aspiring school leaders 2018 Ms Deakin will be meeting with those yr 5 students interested in taking on a leadership role in 2018 this week. An information letter will be handed out to students with role descriptions and also a timeline for applying for positions. Leadership roles include; school leaders, community service officers and chicken keepers. There are additional roles such as sports house captains and environment club leaders which are selected next year. Buddies 2017 We are currently investigating options for the production of our Buddies magazine this year. Please be mindful that there may be a price increase for the magazine depending on what company we engage. We will do our best to secure a good price for families. The cost could range between $30 - $50. We will advise families as soon as possible. Digital Media Festival The DMF is fast approaching (see Calendar dates). Our own 3/4 has entered their wonderful Term 3 class item video into the competition this year. The overall winner will receive a drone for their school. Our Stage 2 choir will also be singing on the night. Please see the advertisement in this newsletter for more information. Tickets will be on sale in our office soon. Our P&C will also be selling their world famous corn, popcorn and drinks. Come along and watch the fantastic film, visit the stalls, buy some fantastic corn on the cob and watch our fantastic singers. It will be a great night!

CANTEEN ROSTER STOP, OPT, and GO This week students learnt a new concept, STOP, OPT, and GO. STOP, OPT, and GO was developed to give students an easy to remember phrase to aid them in slowing down before they act on an impulse. This concept helps students sort through solutions, reflecting on which solution will be most beneficial in regulating them and resolving the conflict.
