NAPLAN Year 3 and Year 5 This week our Year 3 and Year 5 students completed the 2018 NAPLAN testing: Tuesday Language and Writing, Wednesday - Reading and Thursday Numeracy. This is point in time testing. It is an opportunity for us to triangulate our school assessment data with that of this standardised test, to measure growth and identify trends in areas of strength and that of where we can improve. Our Year 3 and 5 students had two teachers in their rooms delivering the test and supporting the students. Monday Assemblies under the COLA These K-6 assemblies are designed to set the tone for the week by reminding students of the PBL focus and drawing the 20 students from the CASULA CHAMPION barrel to be rewarded. It is a perfect opportunity to celebrate successes of our students. The assemblies commence at 9am and students are to be moving to classrooms by 9.10am Parents and Carers are most welcome to join us. I ask that you stand to the sides of the COLA so student focus is on the speaker at the assembly (a PBL practice). Our first three weeks have been hugely successful with the assemblies. All students are to line up on Mondays under the COLA they are not to line up outside their classrooms as they do Tuesday Friday. Soap Dispensers in student toilet blocks Yesterday it was brought to my attention that the soap dispensers in the student toilet blocks were no longer working. I have ordered new dispensers and our General Assistant will install them on arrival. I seek parental support in reminding students about respectful use of school property in order to keep our cleanliness standards at a high level. Before 9am where should my child be playing? - repeat In order to try to make mornings on the playground safe and less crowded we have reallocated areas for our students to play. Our Kindergarten students are to take their bags up under the COLA behind the hall. Year 1, 2 and 3 are to play in Central and Year 4, 5 and 6 are to play in handball alley and grassy square. Supervising teachers will be on duty in these areas. They will be wearing green vests. Parent/Visitor Facilities-repeat I would like to advise parents that they are not to take their toddlers into student toilet facilities. We have designated the toilet outside the library as a toilet for public use. The toilet that is adjacent to Mrs Moussa s Year 6 classroom is no longer available for public use. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Parents please take your toddlers to the Library toilet. I ask also that parents not enter the students toilets. This is a practice in all schools and it is important we follow this protocol for the safety of all students and the protection of self and others. Book Squad What a fabulous opportunity for you to join your child/children in the library on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. You are invited to share our beautiful literature in the library. For any enquiries please contact Miss Gilligan. Our school is a nut aware school A reminder to all parents and carers that we are a nut aware school and need to be aware of the number of children your child goes to school with that have high level allergies. Many of these allergies being life threatening. We seek your support in being mindful when packing lunches to choose carefully. Many of our students are allergic to nuts, tree nuts, strawberries, egg and kiwi fruit. If at all possible please encourage your child to eat these products at home. I am mindful too that some students have a limited range of foods in their diet and this can at times cause concern. At school we have strategies in place to keep all students safe. Don t forget to join us at Breakfast Club on Monday and Thursday mornings it s delicious!! Parents and Carers, Grandparents and Aunts, Uncles and cousins they are all invited to assist in cooking and serving - come along and join us. We are really noticing what a settled start to term 2 we have had a fabulous term awaits! Robyn Evans Thought of the week 2

STEWART HOUSE CLOTHING APPEAL Stewart House bags have been distributed this week. If you would like to donate any unwanted clean, good quality second hand clothing to help people in need, please place clothing in the bag and return it to the school office. Stewart House provides a wonderful program for children who are in need of its services. By returning a bag of used clothing you are helping to raise money for Stewart House. Please ensure you return your bag to school by 9am Monday, 21 May 2018 3
