ANOTHER DIMENSION TAKE A LOOK AT THE SUPERB SUBJECTS AND FACILITIES THAT CARR HILL SIXTH FORM HAS TO OFFER ADMISSIONS HOW TO APPLY FOR YOUR PLACE AT CARR HILL SIXTH FORM CARR HILL HIGH SCHOOL & Sixth Form Centre Royal Avenue Kirkham Preston Lancashire PR4 2ST Admission queries Tel: 01772 682008 Email: contact@carrhill.lancs.sch.uk www.carrhillschool.com In Pursuit of Excellence SAY CARR HILL SIXTH FORM IS GOOD AND STUDENTS ACHIEVE WELL. Your success here continues describe teaching: Pace and challenge, questions which encourage students to think more deeply about the subject matter and strong support from teaching assistants are key features of teaching in the school.

Students enjoy their time in the Sixth Form and show maturity and commitment to their studies. Your success here continues STUDYING AT CARR HILL SIXTH FORM HAS NEVER BEEN MORE EXCITING. More courses are regularly added to our curriculum to ensure students get as much choice and variety as possible. With more than 40 BTEC and A Level subjects on offer, Carr Hill Sixth Form has something for everyone. Sixth Formers act as role models in the thoughtprovoking college assemblies and explain to younger students just why it is important to work hard and attend regularly. Welcome to Carr Hill Sixth Form. Your success continues here We are a growing Sixth Form in terms of the number of students choosing to study here and the range of courses and experiences we offer. Whatever your ambitions, Carr Hill Sixth Form has the right course for you to help make your next steps towards a successful career. Overall Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre is in the top 14% of all schools and colleges in England. We are an 11 18 high school with a distinctive ethos based around the principles of high aspiration, hard work and a strong sense of community. Although growing in size, our Sixth Form is small enough that every student is treated as an individual, and given the same level of personal care and attention preparing them for the future, which makes our lower school so successful. Unlike the big local colleges we tailor-make a personal experience for every student. This helps explain why we have a higher success rate for our students remaining in university education than the local big sixth form colleges manage (according to official DfE statistics), as well as rates of entry into the top universities which compare very favourably with any provider. Our Sixth Form careers guidance team have strong links with local employers, meaning that we also have a great track record of helping students into prestigious apprenticeships At Carr Hill we set high standards and we are always in pursuit of excellence. going to Sixth Form can offer just as much as a college. Y11 student Within each of our programmes of study students are able to choose a combination of courses that meet their needs, interests and aspirations, and that offer the best opportunity of their future success and progression.

Your success continues here WELCOME TO CARR HILL SIXTH FORM. YOUR SUCCESS CONTINUES HERE We are a rapidly growing Sixth Form both in terms of the number of students choosing to study here and the increasing range of courses on offer. Whatever your ambitions, Carr Hill Sixth Form has the right course for you to help make the first steps towards a successful career. You re not a number at Carr Hill. You really feel that the teachers are supporting you to make sure you do your best and do well. Sixth Form Student From the first moment I visited the school I found it inspirational. I am delighted with my daughter s progress and my son is due to start in September he cannot wait to come. Parent Fantastic resources dedicated to Sixth Form subjects, coupled with outstanding teaching, mean Carr Hill is able to offer more than 40 courses including a variety of BTEC and NVQ courses as well as traditional A Levels. In our most recent inspection, inspectors commented on the Sixth Form s Outstanding teaching, providing our students with the best possible assistance to learning. We offer learning over two campuses; our main campus at Carr Hill High School in Kirkham and a second City Campus based in Preston where students can study a wide-range of Media-based subjects including sound production, tv broadcasting and theatrical make-up. The vast majority of Sixth Form students have already spent five years at Carr Hill and do not wish to move. Increasingly students join us from other schools and colleges; they find us very welcoming and quickly settle in. There is every reason for Carr Hill to be the first choice destination for 16 19 year olds. High standards, diverse courses and new facilities, combined with excellent pastoral care and guidance make us one of the best providers locally. Students speak highly of the adults who work with them and comment that staff are always approachable and support them rapidly if they have any concerns. Overall Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre is in the top 14% of all schools and colleges in the county and in the TOP 25% nationally. We are an 11 18 high school where all pupils are proud to belong and feel a valued part of the wider Carr Hill community. As we continue to grow we are welcoming increasing numbers of students into our dedicated Sixth Form Centre and we expect this to continue as more and more young people see the benefits of studying at our school.

I came from a college to Carr Hill but found it very easy to settle because everyone is so warm and welcoming. Sixth Form Student another dimension ENSURING YOU STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD Carr Hill Sixth Formers are part of a community where every individual has a contribution to make, to the benefit of themselves and others. Our sense of community is very strong because of the individual attention everyone receives, the wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, and the level of integration between Sixth Formers and younger students in the lower school. This is all designed to make the school a better place and to give our Sixth Formers the X Factor compared to applicants from other schools and colleges, when they apply to university or to employers. We want you to excel personally and grow into a socially aware, caring and ambitious young adult. The Sixth Form is good and students achieve well. Being Involved Like university, every year we run a Fresher s Fair where new students sign up to clubs, groups and events. These include Film Club, charity support groups (for example Derian House), a Debating Society, chess club, armed forces cadets, sports clubs and many more. Guidance and support is available for any student wishing to set up their own club or society and we positively encourage our students to pursue many interests as we feel this is their opportunity to build their personal skills and share their enthusiasm with others. We also offer an Internship programme to those Sixth Formers aspiring to work in the highest levels of law, finance, education, medicine, and management. Supporting Others In addition, because selflessness and community service are values strongly promoted at Carr Hill, Sixth Formers are expected to support younger children with their reading, their learning in lessons, and to help out at school events. Every Sixth Former s timetable includes supportive activities which they have chosen, working with younger students in their former College. The Sixth Form Committee is an active part of Sixth Form life encouraging students to make their own decisions about activities, trips and social events they wish to organise. The Head Boy and Head Girl from Year 13 run the Committee and also lead the work done by all our student Junior Leaders in the lower school.

SPORTING ELITE The Sporting Elite Academies in Rugby, Football, Netball and Dance are open to applicants who want to take part in Sixth Form sport or Dance at a highly competitive level. Annual trials for places involve athletic and academic performance measures: Academy members are expected to maintain the highest standards in the classroom and in their personal conduct around school. Specialist coaches and personalised training programmes are provided for every athlete, in addition to time during the school day for their personal fitness regime. The four teams have the opportunity to embark on the annual sports tour one year within the UK and the next year abroad. In July 2014 the Academy Tour is to South Africa. Every year Sixth Formers also raise money to fund a charity trip to a developing country with World Challenge, to work with a struggling community helping them improve their lives. These experiences can transform lives. Everything we provide has the aim of ensuring you catch the eye of university admissions tutors or employers. Giving you the edge BROADENING YOUR MIND International links are a critical part of Sixth Form life because the school promotes diversity and tolerance and encourages students to experience what the world outside Kirkham has to offer. Field trips abroad in ICT, Media, English and Business Studies, for example, see students attending conferences in destinations ranging from Paris to New York. Our Link with Zhengzhou Foreign Language School in central China gives about 10 Sixth Formers a year the chance to host a Chinese 17 or 18 year old for a month, then live with their family in China for a month. It s great that we can study so many different courses. I didn t want to go to college so the fact that I can study specialist courses at Carr Hill is pretty impressive. Sixth Form Student

When I first visited the Sixth Form I was impressed with the variety of subjects and the high quality facilities. Parent Making You get so much one-on-one time and people care about you. Parent Without a doubt as parents we were most impressed with Carr Hill. It s facilities, the staff, headteacher, the students; the school presented itself far better than the other sixth forms we visited.
