Mac As we enter our last week of school, we have many exciting activities taking place that we hope you can join us for. We kick off our week with our final Food Bank/Casual Dress Monday for the 2017-2018 school year. The St. John Food Cupboard is relying on our support during the summer months, so I am prayerful that our Catholic community can fill their pantry by donating the remaining pounds we need to meet our goal for this school year! This is an exciting night and transition for our 8th graders and all are welcome to support and congratulate them on Tuesday evening. Then, on Thursday, we look forward to all the festivities of Field Day! Mr. Boldman and our parent volunteers have been working extremely hard over the last few weeks to prepare for this all day event. It is sure to be a day of fun and we hope you can join us for all, if not part of this fun-filled day. As a reminder, we have set a goal this year to collect 8,000 pounds of food throughout the school year. These donations will help many families who are in need in our surrounding community. As you are shopping this weekend, these are the items that the food cupboard is in most need of: white rice cereal juice & canned fruit plain pasta, pasta sauce, ramen noodles tuna fish canned vegetables (we are well stocked on green beans) snacks, crackers paper products (Kleenex, paper towel, and toilet paper) personal needs items (toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, etc) We thank you in advance for your generosity and the support you are offering to the greater East Lansing Community. PBL-Blessing Backpacks - The Kindergarten students have been learning about how there is a need in our Lansing community for backpacks for adults. From June 4-8 at STA there will be a backpack drive for used or new backpacks for adults. Your closet, garage sales, thrift stores and Costco are great places to find affordable backpacks to donate.
Prepping for Preschool - All Parishioners are invited to please join us at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 4 at the School Playground as we say goodbye to a piece of St. Thomas Aquinas history, and usher in a new era for St. Thomas Aquinas Parish School. We will begin demolition of our old convent, which housed so many of the Sisters who taught during the early days of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish School. The convent, built in 1951, shortly after the school was built, also housed our Formation and Religious Education Ministries, in addition to Youth Ministry, Knights of Columbus, and Boy Scouts. We are now ready to begin a new chapter in the development of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish School by planning to build a preschool addition in the area where the convent is standing. The Knights of Columbus will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers beginning at 11:00, with the demolition slated to begin around 11:30 a.m. After the demolition is complete, we will have a limited number of bricks salvaged from the building. For information about how you can take home a piece of St. Thomas Aquinas history, please contact Facilities Manager Paul Lacroix at placroix@elcatholics.org.
