Newsletter Friday, 14 September 2018 From the Principal s Desk MUSIC COUNT US IN It was great to be part of the Music Count Us In program on Tuesday where our students sang One Song along with students in other schools across Australia. The Blair Choir led us in this song as well as performing two more songs to entertain the audience. It was awesome seeing them in their new choir vests purchased by the P&C this year. Thanks to Miss Hollingworth for organising this and for the ongoing work she does with the choir students. COLOUR FUN RUN The colour fun run will be held next Friday, 21 September after second break. Students are encouraged to acquire a cheap white T-shirt to achieve the best effect. Parents might like to have a change of clothes or have a cover for car seats for pickup as students will be covered in coloured powder and may also be wet. Last year the colour fun run was a huge hit and this will be a great way to end the term. Parents are welcome to volunteer to help dispense the coloured powder or just come and watch. Sponsor forms need to be returned with all money collected ASAP. TERM 3 REWARD ACTIVITY The Term 3 reward activity will occur on various days for classes throughout next week. Thank you to the large number of students who continually make great choices and meet our four school expectations to: Be an Active learner Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Safe Students not eligible to participate will be given an alternative activity while their class participates in their reward. From the Principal s Desk continued... NAPLAN INDIVIDUAL REPORTS NAPLAN individual student reports have been sent home today for students in Year 3 and 5. If you need any assistance to interpret these reports, please contact your class teacher. The National Minimum Standard (NMS) is Band 2 for Year 3 and Band 4 for Year 5. Year 3 parents will notice that the mean for Reading is in the Top 2 Bands and it has been reported from our region that 60% of Metropolitan students in Year 3 are in the Top 2 bands for reading. This is a great result and supported by our data where 42% of our Year 3 students tested in the Top 2 bands for Reading. The Middle 2 Bands are where students should be to show they are working in their age appropriate level. It was very pleasing to see the large number of students in the Middle 2 and Top 2 bands. REMINDER - CLASSES 2019 Parents with any special requests for classes in 2019 are asked to contact admin via phone or email. We cannot promise that we can meet all requests, but we will try our hardest to accommodate the majority of requests received where possible. As I have said in previous years, arranging classes is one of the most complicated processes and involves multiple levels of complexity. Consideration has to be given to what is best educationally and emotionally for all children. We do not take this process lightly and it is impossible to make everyone happy. I have also told the story many times where two friends may make opposing requests. One parent wants the children together in the same class and the other wants the children separated. This is a no-win situation for us as someone will be disappointed. Neither parent wants to tell the other of their choice as they do not want to ruin the friendship. So whatever outcome eventuates, be considerate and avoid an embarrassing situation. Additionally, if parents know they will not be with us in 2019 then please contact admin as class numbers will be tight and this will help us better plan for the new classes next year. If you are aware of families moving into the Blair catchment who intend on enrolling students at Blair please get them to contact us so spaces can be made in classes for 2019. Peter Lund Principal
