IB Mission Statement The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

What is the Extended Essay? 4000 word in depth study of a focused topic chosen from DP subjects Academic research and writing skills Engagement in personal research on a topic of their choice Formal presentation of research Reflection throughout the process with an EE Supervisor
The Extended Essay Mandatory for all students in the Diploma Program Must achieve a D or higher Externally graded and combined with TOK grade Independent Research 4,000 words (16 pages double spaced) 40 hours of work by the student 3-5 hours supported by the supervisor
Goals of the Extended Essay Engage in independent research with intellectual initiative and rigor Develop research, thinking, self-management and communication skills Reflect on what has been learned throughout the research and writing process

What is Creativity, Activity, Service? Ensures IB students are well rounded outside of the classroom Exploring and extending ideas leading to an original or interpretive product or performance (Creativity) Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle (Activity) Collaborative and reciprocal engagement with the community in response to an authentic need (Service) Emphasis on reflection Completion of CAS portfolio
University Recognition Bucknell University 6 credits for each exam of a 5 or higher Fashion Institute of Technology Students who take IB courses and receive grades of 4 or higher may be awarded up to 30 semester hours of transfer credit upon the receipt of the official IB transcripts. Franklin and Marshall College IB Diploma recipients with a total score of 30 or more are awarded 8 course credits (one full year) toward a degree. They will enter with sophomore standing. Hofstra University IB Diploma recipients with a score of 30 or more points and a score of 5 or higher on their HL exams will receive up to 30 credits. Lafayette College the Full IB Diploma may qualify the recipient for sophomore status. Towson University Students who earn an IB Diploma will be eligible for sophomore standing and will be awarded 30 college credits. University of Chicago students may receive up to a year s worth of credit in a given subject for scores of 6 or 7 on their HL exams.
University Recognition University of California System All 9 UC campuses reward 30 units to full Diploma recipients with a score of 30 or more. De Paul University Diploma holders can be eligible for 24-30 credit hours Florida State University Diploma recipients can receive up to 30 credit hours. University of Georgia students can get anywhere from 4-12 credit hours for IB courses Marquette University Students can earn between 12-18 credits for their IB Exams University of Maryland the full IB Diploma can earn students 18-24 credits University of Michigan - HL exams with a score of 4 or higher can earn up to 28 credit hours. University of Rochester Generous credit is awarded for HL exams as well as merit scholarships specifically for IB students.
University Recognition American University HL exams with a score of 4 or higher can earn students 6-8 credits per exam. Boston University HL exams with scores of 5, 6 or 7 can receive a max of 8 credits. Cornell University Students can receive anywhere from 3-8 credits from HL exams that score 6-7. George Mason University HL exams with scores of 4, 5, 6, 7 receive course credit. NYU HL exams with a grade of 5 or higher will typically receive 8 credit hours each.
Questions from Back to School Night When does the Extended Essay start? It already has started Are there interim assignments toward completion of the program? Yes. Each subject area will have an internal assessment that is completed at some point during their coursework. Even though it is completed mid-year it is not submitted to IB until Spring of Year 2. What do you expect from students? Effort. Organization. Integrity. Commitment. Communication. How is their IB work in total calculated?
