More info call: 541-327-1948 Christmas Tree Safety Tips PICKING THE TREE Choose a tree with fresh, green needles that do not fall off when touched. PLACING THE TREE Before placing the tree in the stand, cut 2 from the base of the trunk. Make sure the tree is at least three feet away from any heat source, like fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights. Make sure the tree is not blocking an exit. Add water to the tree stand. Be sure to add water daily. LIGHTING THE TREE Use lights that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory. Some lights are only for indoor or outdoor use. Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections. Read manufacturer s instructions for number of light strands to connect. Never use lit candles to decorate the tree. Always turn off Christmas tree lights before leaving home or going to bed. 5

EVERYONE IS WELCOME!! The Jefferson Community Pantry team sends special thanks to all our wonderful volunteers who will have provided over 2700 work hours in 2018, our sustaining monthly & many other financial supporters, area fruit & vegetable growers and other individuals & local groups who contribute so much and do so many things to help. It takes a lot of people and resources to keep the pantry going. We are so grateful for all of the community support. Because of you, the pantry is feeding around 200 kids and adults a month with over 30,000 pounds of food this year. You make it happen Jefferson! 9

EXPRESS YOURSELF!!!! WHERE: Jefferson United Methodist Church (corner of 2 nd & Church in Jefferson) WHEN: Starting Wednesday, January 16, 2019 after Early Release 2pm-4pm, and every THIRD Wednesday a month 2pm-4pm through December 2019. WHO: JEFFERSON SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS GRADES 7-12 WHAT: ART CLASS (not crafts) for Jefferson Students who would like additional Art Instruction or who are not able to fit Art Classes at JHS into their school schedule this year. For students who are willing to try a variety of art mediums including drawing, painting, oil pastels, print making, and more. REQUIREMENT: Students must be willing to commit to attending all of the sessions. Class will consist of approximately 18 students and 6 adults. Respectful behavior is required of all at all times. THERE IS NO COST FOR THESE CLASSES all art materials & snacks are provided FREE! INSTRUCTOR: Mark Manning, who retired from Jefferson High School after teaching art for 35 years. Questions contact Mark at 541-327-1948 WHAT TO DO NOW: Interested students must complete the EXPRESS YOURSELF! Applications (available at JHS Art & Counseling Depts or Jefferson Station) and leave it with Ms Lloyd of JHS Art Dept, MS Moss at JHS Counseling, or drop it off to Michelle at Jefferson Station before December 15, 2018. Class size is limited, participants will be selected based on when they get their application in. This class is made possible by a generous New People/New Places Grant from the Cascadia District Office & Extension Society of the Oregon-Idaho United Methodist Church Conference. It is to provide experiences in local communities that engage a variety of community members in enrichment activities that build relationships and strengthen communities. It is not a religious program, it s just about teenagers & adults having fun learning new art techniques and doing art together. 10

Individuals wishing to address the Board during audience time will be asked to sign in upon arrival. Registration begins the 3rd of December and runs through the 13th of December during regular office hours and Saturday December 8th from 8am-12pm There will be open gym times in the JMS gym during Winter Break: December 22nd and 29th- Ages K-2 from 10:00 am-3-4 from 11:30-1:00 pm and 5-8th from 1:00-2:30 pm Jefferson Park and Recreation District is soliciting members for the Jefferson Park and Recreation Budget Committee. The Budget Committee comprises the Board and five additional community members that reviews and takes action on the proposed budget. Meetings are usually one or two evenings in early May. Terms are three year appointments. If interested: provide the following: Name, address, email and or phone contact and a brief statement that you are interested in being considered to serve on the Budget Committee. Requests for consideration must be in by 130PM Thursday January 31st. The Board will review and consider requests at their February 2019 Meeting.
