As well as spreading the word about our exciting learning programs and our wonderful community, to friends and neighbours and the Corpus Christi, please come along and witness the learning-in-action across the school. Stage 3 parents are organising the morning tea as another way of welcoming new families to our school. STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY Tuesday 3 rd April will be a Pupil Free Day for Corpus Christi. This is the Tuesday following the Easter break. This will be a pupil free day as teaching staff will be attending a professional learning workshop with a focus on improving outcomes in writing at the Light of Christ Centre, at Waitara. Link Rd Kids are offering full day care. For more information, please contact them directly; linkrdkids@hotmail.com, 0423 260 666. BUSH DANCE The Bush Dance was a great success and it was good to see so many families come along and enjoy the evening of good music and dancing, topped off by great pizza. Thank you to the P&F Exec for the excellent organisation and finally many thanks to Ducks on the Pond for providing the music for this great Corpus event which bought families together, to get to know one another and have fun! SWIMMING CARNIVAL The Swimming Carnival results were announced at Assembly on Monday. Age champions were presented with their trophies and the record breakers acknowledged. There were many examples of students trying extra hard, doing their best and swimming better than they believed they could!! Well done also to the Colour House Captains for their efforts on the day too. Full results are included in this newsletter. The success swimming carnival is due to the support of parents who make it all possible. Thanks to Mr Sheedy for all the organisation of the day and to the teachers who help out in so many ways that ensured the success of the 2018 Swimming Carnival. ISDA DEBATING The teams have been selected to represent Corpus Christi in the Independent Schools Debating Association (ISDA). We are fortunate to be entering two teams into this premier debating competition as the junior school of Brigidine College. The competition started last Friday with the first debate at Brigidine. Congratulations to all the debaters last week despite debating being new to some of them, they stood their ground and make an excellent start to debating by delivering their points well and engaging in rebuttal. This week the debaters meet Sydney Grammar at another home debate at Brigidine. Good luck for the season! NAPLAN We have been informed that NAPLAN will remain a pencil/paper test for 2018. It is anticipated that there will be full participation in NAPLAN ONLINE BY 2020. Year 3 and Year 5 parents will have further details sent home today. THE LIGHT IS ON Churches throughout the Diocese will open every Friday night between 7pm and 8pm in Lent. THE LIGHTS ARE ON to welcome families into the Church. Come in for a moment of prayer or simply savour some quiet time as a family in a place of peace. You can stay for 5 minutes or the whole hour! URGENT: CANTEEN CO-ORDINATING TEAM The canteen will not open as planned this Friday There has been no response to the call for a co-ordinating team. We are exploring some other options for the canteen, but that will take time. In the meantime we are looking at options for simplifying canteen operation including offering over-the-counter sales at lunchtime only or only offering lunch order only service. We will keep you informed. COMING EVENTS North Shore Cluster Swimming Open Day - 9am - 11am Broken Bay Cluster Swimming Tuesday 6th March Wednesday 7th March Thursday 8th March. The soccer season will kick off on April 7th and will run through to late August. Soccer games are also held every first and last Saturday of any holidays, with just the middle Saturday considered a break. MiniRoos Team nominations are due to the NSFA on March 19 th. The sooner we start the process, the better! This year, there is one added step to take before registering, i.e. applying for your Active Kids Voucher Number. Details are provided as part of the registration process below. For all parents unfamiliar with soccer, games are held on Saturdays around the north shore area and soccer practice typically takes place one day a week, straight after school. Coaching is usually done by very kind parent volunteers who have agreed to take on their child s team so flexibility is required and appreciated. Every Junior team will require a coach and a manager, so please do send an email now to cchawks10@gmail.com if you would be keen or happy to help out. We can t do it without your help. There is also an Over 35 men s team registration process is the same as for the Junior players. We hope that all the information provided below will be helpful and look forward to another great year of soccer!
