High School Graduation Plans The Foundation High School Program (FHSP) with endorsements is the default graduation program for all Texas public school students. The FHSP with endorsements diploma plan requires students to earn at least 26 credits and consists of several parts. 3

Foundation Plan with Endorsements Diploma Foundation Plan (22 credits) - the core courses of the Texas high school diploma program Endorsements (4 or more additional credits) - acknowledgement(s) a student receives for completing the Foundation Plan and a series of student selected courses (electives) in a particular endorsement area 22 Foundation credits + 4 or more endorsement courses 26 or more credits and a diploma! Enhancements Distinguished Level of Achievement - notes completion of more advanced academic courses and an endorsement Performance Acknowledgment - notes outstanding achievement in specific areas 4

Foundation Plan The 22 credit Foundation Plan coursework includes: English language arts 4 credits Mathematics 3 credits Social studies 3 credits Science 3 credits Foreign language 2 credits Fine Arts 1 credit PE 1 credit Electives (includes speech and health) 5 credits 5

Endorsements To earn an endorsement, students must complete a) Foundation Plan coursework, b) an additional math credit, c) an additional science credit, and d) a coherent sequence of elective or Career and Technical Education courses (at least 4 credits) that meet the requirements for a specific endorsement. A student must earn at least 26 credits to earn an endorsement. 6

Endorsements Endorsement areas are made up of a series of related courses that are grouped together by interests or skills. Each endorsement area will provide students with in-depth knowledge of a subject area. New Braunfels ISD offers courses in five endorsement areas. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Business and Industry Arts and Humanities Public Services Multidisciplinary Studies 8

Business and Industry Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Business Management and Administration Public Service Education and Training Health Science Arts & Humanities Social Studies Languages Other Than English Finance Human Services Fine Arts Information Technology Marketing Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics Arts, A/V Technology, and Communications Communications NBISD Endorsements Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security Military STEM Advanced Mathematics Advanced Science STEM with a CTE Focus Multidisciplinary Studies 4x4 Academic Advanced Academic CTE Courses are categorized into career clusters or areas of special interest for each endorsement area. 9

Recap What does it take to graduate and earn a diploma in a Texas public high school? 22 credits of Foundation coursework (required of all students) + 4 or more additional credits that (students select) that meet criteria for an endorsement 26 total credits (at least) 10

Earning Recognition for Achievements Distinguished Level of Achievement To earn Distinguished Level of Achievement, a student must meet the Foundation Program requirements and - earn a total of 4 credits in math including Algebra II, - earn a total of 4 credits in science, and - successfully complete at least one endorsement. 11

Earning Recognition for Achievements Performance Acknowledgments A student may earn Performance Acknowledgements for outstanding performance in a dual credit course, in bilingualism and biliteracy, on the PSAT, ACT-Plan, SAT, or ACT, or on an Advanced Placement (AP) exam. A student may also earn a Performance Acknowledgment for earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license. 13

Planning for Graduation GRADE 8 All students must select an endorsement before they enter 9 TH grade. Students decisions will be documented on the Endorsement Declaration form. 15

Planning for graduation GRADE 9 Before the end of 9 TH grade, all students must develop a four-year plan of coursework that will lead to earning a diploma in the Foundation High School Plan with endorsement(s). Plans made in 8 th grade will be reviewed by students, parents, and a counselor. Students will make edits. Students and parents will sign the plan and return to the counselor. 16

Developing a Four-year Plan COMPLETE THE STEPS BELOW 1. Learn about available courses. Review resources describing courses available in NBISD. Talk to your teachers. 2. Review and edit four-year plans. 3. 4. Return signed four-year plans to your geography teacher or to the counselors office. Make an appointment with Mrs. Cottle, CTE counselor, if you have any changes to your four-year plan. 17

Step Three - Return signed four-year plans. - Return your reviewed four-year plans to your geography teacher or to the counselors office. - Make sure that you and your parent(s) or guardian have - marked all edits, - checked one endorsement area, and - signed the four-year plan. Return to your signed four-year plan by November 15, 2018. 24

Step Four - Make an appointment to see the counselor if you have any changes to your four-year plan. If you are changing your endorsement or are making any changes to courses listed on your four-year plan, you must schedule an appointment to meet with the CTE counselor. To schedule an appointment to meet with the CTE counselor, go to ngc4yearplan.youcanbook.me Parents are welcome to schedule a time to visit with the counselor. 25
