Thursday, 9 March 2017 Values: Purpose: To develop confident and resilient students through the provision of a diverse range of learning experiences and challenges which encourage curiosity, excitement for learning, thirst for knowledge and connectedness to their community. This is underpinned by a whole school community whose moral purpose is committed to promoting success for all students. The annual report provides a means for the school council to inform the community of what has been achieved and how the school is performing. The annual report includes the following - - a profile comment about our school including the school s vision and purpose, and defining attributes of the school including its geographic location, size and structure, social characteristics, enrolment characteristics, special programs etc. - comments on the school s progress and what the school is doing to improve student outcomes in the three areas of achievement, engagement and wellbeing. - Information about school enrolments, the socio-economic background of students, the proportion of students with English as an additional language, data related to parent and staff satisfaction. - How our students are performing in English and Mathematics compared to all Victorian Primary Schools - How our students are performing in NAPLAN in Year 3 and Year 5 compared to all Victorian Primary Schools - Student attendance data - Year 5 and Year 6 Student Attitudes to School data - Parent Satisfaction Summary - School Staff Survey Summary The AGM will be held at 6.30 7.00 pm on Tuesday 21 st March in the school staffroom. All parents are welcome. The AGM will be followed by the first meeting of the new School Council.

Exiting School Council Members At the AGM we will be saying farewell to the following School Council members Noel Scerri, Jodie Howitt, Daryl Canny and Fikriye Halil-Coban. It is also with sadness that we farewell Noel, Jodie and Daryl as this is a permanent farewell. Their youngest child/ren left our school at the end of 2016 beginning their secondary schooling in 2017. Their last School Council meeting for Greenvale will be the AGM on the 21st March. They have dedicated many years to our school and their support and energy will be sorely missed. Noel Scerri Jodie Howitt Daryl Canny Fikriye Halil-Coban President Community Links Convenor Buildings and Grounds Community Links What do I like about school? Our Foundation students have now been at school just on 5 weeks and in that time we have seen them making adjustments to school routines and expectations. Ms Franz s classroom were asked what they like about coming to school. Here are some of their responses-. Ecrin Musa I like coming to school to learn new things. Nasser I like school because I like learning from Miss Franz. I like using the ipads at school. Laylah Blake I have lots of news friends at school. I like to play with the dice at school. Ava Ahmed I like come to school to learn about letters and sounds. I like to play Buzz in Maths at school. Austin I like the big playground at school. Cruz I like going to P.E. with Mr Carroll at school. Isabel Rhys I like learning how to read with Miss Franz. I like borrowing books from the Library at school. Ebony I like drawing at school.

Opening of our school oval.. Only 5 more school days before the temporary fence around the school oval is removed. The grass is looking amazing! Everyone is waiting in anticipation. A big thank you to Rob Skiathitis from RMS Groundswork for looking after the grass since it has been laid. Head lice It is important that you check your child s hair for head lice on a regular basis and treat your child s hair accordingly. Lice will live in all hair types, whether they are clean or dirty makes no difference. If a case of head lice is identified in your child s classroom, you will receive a note informing you of this so you can check your own child immediately. Children with head lice cannot return to school until they have had their hair treated and the school has been informed of this. Insurance Personal Accident Just a reminder to all families that the Department of Education does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students whilst at school, including the cost of ambulance attendance / transport and any other transport costs. Student accident insurance/ambulance cover policies are available from some commercial insurers. Personal Property Personal property is often brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. As the Department of Education does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property students are discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school Food For Thought: Assistant Principal s Notes Meredith Clegg ATTENDANCE In the attendance data below the absence rate per student has risen to over one day per student and in the past two weeks there has been a significant increase in Year 1 student absences. Attendance is important, particularly in the early formative years when reading, writing and numeracy is developing, so every day your child is at school counts.
