SCHOOL SWIMMING PROGRAM- BEGINS NEXT WEEK Program times and organisational details are: SESSION 1-30 children Group 1 School Train Lesson Finish Lesson Return Train Prep to 3 9:15am 9:26am 10:00am 10:45am 11:17am 6R Asta For very creative and interesting Art port folio Folder with great enthusiasm SESSION 2-30 children Group 2 School Train Lesson Finish Lesson Return Train Yrs 4 to 6 10:10 am 10:21am 10:45am 11:30am 12:17pm We are still seeking parent volunteers to assist with supervision and change room duties on some days, especially male parents to assist with Group 1 (P/1 D, 2/3N) and on some days with Group 2 (4/5G & 6R) Children not attending the program will remain at school under the supervision of staff members in combined Prep to 3 or Yr 4-6 classes. Please remember to bring bathers, goggles and towels in a separate carry bag (and maybe extra socks and underwear too) for the swimming program on WEDNESDAY 3 RD NOVEMBER- the day after MELBOURNE CUP DAY HOLIDAY. It is important to attend the first session as classifying the children into groups will occur. Please note that purchases by children from the Belgrave Pool Kiosk will not be permitted. SPECIALIST PROGRAMS- DURING THE SWIMMING PROGRAM During the next two weeks the children may be having Art, Physical Education & Music specialist lessons at different times from what is usually timetabled due to the Swimming Program. SCHOOL INFORMATION I would appreciate families with changed details contacting the office especially regarding changes to emergency contacts, phone numbers, addresses or any other personal details so that we can keep our records up to date. This is particularly vital in relation to being able to proceed with full confidence in any emergency situations.

UDEC ARTS FESTIVAL We have just received information that the UDEC Arts Festival will not be held this year due to scheduling and venue issues but is anticipated to be held at Burrinja after completion of the new theatre in 2011. PRE SCHOOL TRANSITION The Cool To Go To School school experience and orientation program for all 2011 enrolled Preps will be held on- Friday 26 th November and Friday 3 rd December from 9-11 am (Prep Classroom activities with Miss Drew) PREP INFORMATION EVENING 2010 (FOR 2011 PREPS) This is to be held on Wednesday 1 st December from 7-8 pm in the School Library. Miss Drew and Mr Aspinall will present information about preparation for Prep including a show bag with Prep Information Booklet, how to prepare for Prep in 2011 and specific school information. Invitations were mailed this week to students already enrolled. SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING Our meeting was held on Monday 25 th October. Items discussed were: Bendigo Bank sponsorship Working Bees- Preparation for the construction of our new garden shed to be located next to the Junior Building. Twilight Working Bee- 4-7 pm on Friday 19 th November- Free sausage sizzle at 7:00 pm- children and parents invited to assist in maintenance work. NAPLAN results BASC/Music room refurbishment going to plan Investigate seeking grants such as Junior Land Care Emergency Management Planning- A new template has been developed by the DEECD REMINDERS NORMAL SCHOOL DAY- Monday 1 st November Just a note to let you know that Monday 1 st November is a normal school day. The following day Tuesday 2 nd November is the Melbourne Cup Day Holiday. UNIFORM REMINDER Children need to follow our uniform guidelines and parents are reminded that if a child needs to come to school with items of clothing that are not correct uniform then a note to the class teacher, or me, is required to indicate the reason. Also please ensure that clothing is named so that we can find the rightful owner when lost property is located. A collection of lost property is being kept in the front office foyer and sick bay. 2011 GRADES- NEW ENROLMENTS FOR 2011 Grades for 2011 will soon be organised with a considerable amount of new enrolments already confirmed. If you are aware of any possible enrolment for next year please contact the office with details. If you haven t already organised an enrolment please pick up forms at the office. DEPARTURES FOR 2011 Now is the time to inform me regarding any expected departures for 2011. If you are moving/planning to not be enrolled at Upwey PS next year then please let me know. Please inform me regarding definite or even likely departures. HEAD LICE WARNING Parents please be vigilant with the ongoing problem of Headlice. We still have had numerous cases reported in all classes. Please check your child s hair regularly and continue treatment for at least a few weeks until all eggs have been removed if nits or headlice are evident. EXTRA CURRICULAR EVENTS KNOX BASKETBALL- WHOLE SCHOOL EX- CURSION TO KNOX STADIUM This basketball clinic has been organised for- Monday15 th November for the whole school for the whole day. We will travel by train from Upwey Station to Boronia Stadiumwalk to Knox Stadium across Boronia Rd. It should be a great experience! Permission forms will be distributed at the end of next week. This activity will complete our involvement in physical education programs/incursions for the year. The cost is expected to be $3 which will cover the train ticket cost. POSITIVE PLAY The two winners of the draw last week were Jack H (4/5G) & Mia H (6R). Congratulations! The two winners of this week s draw were Cooper C (6R) & Lydia A (P/1D). Congratulations! CRICKET CLINIC- MILO CRICKET PRO- GRAM We completed an enjoyable cricket clinic for our Year 3 & 4 children with the assistance of In2Cricket in conjunction with the local Milo clinic. Thanks to Brendan for running the clinic and making the children do a variety of activities. The children participated with enthusiasm and had a great time. Information brochures have been distributed to the children giving details of the Upwey Tecoma Milo Program for interested children/parents. Previous experience with trust accounts would be highly desirable, but we are willing to train the right person. The successful applicant must have an aptitude with figures and current computer experience. Hours are flexible, but must have the ability to help cover annual leave of other staff.
