The CHOMP St. Gregory School Newsletter SEPTEMBER 2018 Celebrating everything GATOR! We start the year with the prayer of Our Father Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Farewell Donut forget about us! We wish a fond farewell to four amazing St. Gregory School staff members. It is with a sad heart that we say good-bye to: Mr. Lukie- Jr. High Teacher Mrs. Martin- Jr. High/Music Teacher Mrs. Wozniak- Pt. Time DLT Mrs. Bobyn- Vice Principal
Mr. Lukie Mr. Lukie entered St. Gregory School and was an instant fit. He represents everything we hope our students to become; an inquisitive learner; a strong leader and an honest person. We at St. Greg s were lucky to have the influence of Mr. Lukie for the short time we did. He will be remembered as a firm and fair volleyball coach. As the patient and knowledgeable Makey Makey group leader. As the dedicated yearbook producer. What Mr. Lukie brought to our school team was the patience to be able to launch into new and complicated options and clubs that required skilled leaders. Students and staff alike will feel his absence in the year to come, but we are thrilled that he is able to continue his passion for teaching while also growing into his new role in administration. Good luck Mr. Lukie. We hope to see you again! Once a GATOR always a GATOR
Mrs. Martin Mrs. Martin came to St. Greg s to take over our music program and teach band to our school. She did an amazing job. Mrs. Martin was willing to take on any task, no matter how difficult. She took on numerous events and field trips in order to give our students the most opportunities in music. We doubt she will ever forget the band trip and all the craziness that goes on! Students will miss Mrs. Martin s kindness and fun personality. They all remark at how nice she is and how she is always available to talk or help out. We wish you well Mrs. Martin! Thank you for all you did for our school! We will miss you!
Mrs. Wozniak The CHOMP St. Gregory School Newsletter Mrs. Wozniak is going to be so missed at St. Gregory School. She has helped so many students be successful and strive to increase their learning potential. Mrs. Wozniak has a calm and quiet way about her that is so inviting to students. Many students comment on how inviting she is and that they always feel comfortable in her presence. We wish her well as she begins a new adventure. Don t forget to visit! We miss you already!
Mrs. Bobyn It is very hard to say good bye to Mrs. Bobyn, our beloved vice-principal. Though we haven t been able to keep her long, we are so thankful we got time with her. Mrs. Bobyn was our cool and calm leader. She ruled the school with kindness, humor and amazing pedagogical tact. All students loved her compassion and they felt she was honestly on their side. Staff as well will miss her fairness and ability to do what is right. We only hope our paths will cross again one day. WE WILL MISS YOU MRS. BOBYN! VISIT OFTEN.
Our School Got Cooler! The community and public relations option led by Mrs. Schmitz and Mrs. McFarland set a goal to beautify the school this spring to honour the 50th anniversary of St. Gregory and to create a welcoming environment for our students and surrounding community. The first project was to rejuvenate the school flower beds with perennials that would return each year and to create a small herb garden that could be used in the future by our foods and fashion classes. The second project was to paint the front walkway of the school. Students discussed, organized, planned and prepped for weeks leading up to the painting project of the front sidewalk. It took many hours of extra time at lunch and during class to tape the pattern on the sidewalk and then an entire morning to paint all of the squares creating the cobblestone pathway. Finally, a small handful of students assisted with painting our welcome and gator logo at the front entrance. Many thanks to all of the students in the option class and all of the adults that assisted with the project. Hopefully the painting will continue to welcome parents, students and visitors to St. Gregory for years to come. Congratulations on a job well done! Kelly Schmitz B.Ed.; M.A.C.P. Hey GATORS! Don t Forget If you will NOT be at school to pick up your progress report you will need to provide a self-addressed stamped envelope (8.5 x 11 preferred) to the office.
Parking Lot Safety We ask all parents to please refrain from dropping their children off in the parking lot. In the morning this is a very busy place and we have had numerous close calls that make us very diligent about everyone s safety. We also ask everyone to be considerate of our handicap parking spaces. These spaces are reserved for handi buses and handicap pass holders. These are not quick drop off or pick up spots. Thank- you
Grade 9 Farewell We had to say farewell to our wonderful Grade Nine classes. Every year it s difficult to watch them leave and this year is no exception. Over the last four years we have watched these grade nine students mature from children to young adults. Our graduates are talented, witty and ready to take on high school! We already see the amazing potential in these students and we cannot wait to see what they will become in the future! Good luck to all graduates! Once a GATOR always a GATOR!

We Recognize Aboriginal Day This Aboriginal Day St. Gregory School witnessed a presentation that told three distinct, yet intertwined stories. We heard the tragic story of residential school. We heard the amazing story of a wonderful Canadian, Gord Downie. We heard the story of Chaine Wenjack, a brave boy who died running away from residential school. These stories were braided and came together to not only tell of the past, but also to project a future that acknowledges past faults and grows from it.
