WUA History Legacy seeks to provide care for the dependants of servicemen who died while on war service or subsequently. Initially emphasising the need to provide care for the children of ex-servicemen, increased emphasis has been given to the care of their widows. Membership of Legacy is open to servicemen and ex-servicemen who have served in a war zone. A City of Wollongong and District Legacy Contact Group covering the area from Austinmer to Dapto was established on 9 July 1945. Within two years the activities of the Group had substantially increased and the Wollongong Legacy was established on 8 November 1947. The Club is responsible for the coastal area from Helensburgh to the Victorian border. Contact groups were established at Nowra and Bega.
