Pastoral Leader Job description and person specification Salary: L6 Reporting to: Head of Pastoral Conditions: Location: 37 hours per week / 39 weeks per year Putteridge High School, Luton You will take a 30 min break for lunch and there is an expectation that you will be available for directed time meetings as required. Although the post is term time only, you may be required to be available for two days during the GCSE results week in August to assist with student enquiries. You will be required to attend meetings offsite and it may be necessary for you to use your own vechile for this purpose. The particular responsibilities attached to the post of Pastoral Leader include: The pastoral leader is a key point of contact for all matters relating to students within the House. The post holder is responsible for the day to management of students and administration of the various systems and procedures relating to student welfare and well-being. The post holder works under the supervision of and reports directly to the Head of Pastoral. Leadership and Management Working with the Head of House, to be an enthusiastic champion of the House, its students and staff and their achievements, in order to promote the vision, sense of purpose and pride in the House To be professional, friendly and respectful towards all colleagues, and to address any concerns through proper channels To be professional, friendly, fair and firm with students, demonstrating the sort of politeness and respectfulness that we wish them to emulate
To be friendly, helpful and welcoming to parents and others visiting or making contact with the school Teaching and Learning To liaise with the Head of Pastoral to ensure appropriate targeted intervention is applied to students from vulnerable groups and monitor and evaluate the success of this. To work closely and monitor students with Behaviour Support Plans, Pastoral Support Plans or similar People and Relationships To work alongside the Head of House to celebrate positive achievement within the House group To be the first point of contact on all matters relating to students within the House and to establish positive, professional relationships with parents/carers and outside agencies, in order to promote the well-being of all students To be aware of legislations and Child Protection procedures within the school and assist the Child Protection Designated Officer as appropriate To liaise with the Head of Pastoral to facilitate small group work sessions, e.g. anger management, esteem, building and conflict resolution Work with other colleagues and outside agencies to contribute and attend meetings and planning process for individual students e.g. disadvantaged, CP and LAC etc. These responsibilities include liaising with other colleagues in order to identify students to be discussed, contributing to the preparation of paperwork, attending relevant meetings and feeding back information within the House, as appropriate To work with the Head of Pastoral, SENCO and other colleagues as appropriate to develop an intervention programme supporting families To support the behaviour and welfare of students To liaise with the Head of Pastoral to ensure that students at risk of exclusion are guided towards appropriate curricular opportunities In consultation with the Head of Pastoral and SLT, to support internal and external exclusion procedures School Efficiency and Effectiveness To keep clear records of all support and intervention given Working with the administrative team, to ensure the proper administration of a variety of tasks including Parents Evenings, Student Records e.g. behaviour management systems and praise and reward systems To monitor attendance of students within the House and liaise with the Education Welfare Service where there is a cause for concern To support high standards of dress, behaviour, organisation (i.e. equipment, planners) of students within the House To help students choose the right professionals to talk to regarding future academic pathways and employment To take part in marketing and liaison activities, such as Open Evenings, Parents Evenings and liaison events with partner schools/organisations
To encourage student participation and leadership in all areas of House life, through such things as regular assemblies, charity events and participation in extra curricular and House activities To work with the Head of House, Leadership Team and SENCO to support transition and transfer between key stages To implement the school s equal opportunities and anti-bullying policies To take part in the staff development programme by participating in arrangements for further training and professional development To engage actively in the Performance Management Review process To supervise students as required e.g. detentions To be aware of and responsible for personal health and safety and that of others and to follow the health and safety protocols as stated by LBC
