Learning/Credit Opportunities Correspondence Texas Tech Six months to complete course SENIORS--coursework completed and final taken by November 22nd If the student does not complete the course, a WD will be recorded on the transcript and calculated into their GPA as an F Must sign correspondence agreement letter See counselor for more information 7

NCAA Eligibility (register early-don t wait until your senior year) 16 core courses required for eligibility as determined by the NCAA GPA in 16 core courses is not the same as the cumulative GPA on a transcript. SAT/ACT scores needed are based on core course GPA Students who want to become eligible for college recruitment must register online with the NCAA Clearinghouse at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net 13
College Entrance Exams SAT and ACT prefer all students register online www.collegeboard.org www.actstudent.org Take both tests to see which one is best for you; colleges accept both Students may qualify for a waiver for the SAT, ACT, and some college application fees if they are on free and reduced lunch The TSI is used at many junior/community colleges. ALL Juniors will take ACT on April 19 th during school. Free opportunity and no registration required. 14

4 Main Steps for College Applications Fill out each application carefully and thoroughly, including required essays (most are done online) Request an official transcript from the registrar s office Can be mailed or sent electronically to the college before or after the application is complete Have SAT/ACT test scores sent to the college from the testing agency (before or after application is complete) Apply to all schools by winter break if possible Must meet prospective school s deadline Photocopy all materials 16
Applications Requiring Counselor Input and/or Letter of Recommendation 3 WEEKS ADVANCE NOTICE is mandatory for all recommendation letters or college forms requiring counselor input First, order an official transcript in the registrar s office Next, fill out a Student Profile Packet available in the counseling office Finally, make the request by opening a senior folder with lead counselor s secretary and submitting the following materials: Student Profile Packet Any necessary application forms and deadlines 17
