From the Head of Curriculum Report Cards Semester 1, 2015 reports will be emailed to parents this Wednesday, June 24 at 2pm. Many thanks to the parents who have provided me with their updated email addresses. Please add OneSchool.application@dete.qld.gov.au to your list of safe senders to ensure the report is added to your inbox. If you cannot see the report card in your inbox please check your junk or spam folders. If you have any problems receiving your child's report card please email me and let me know. Your report will be sent to you in the first week of next term. What does the report card tell you? The report card provides achievement levels, effort levels and comments outlining what knowledge and skills have been covered throughout the semester. Comments about behaviour and overall effort and work are also provided. Each year level uses a five point reporting scale, with different year levels using different reporting scales dependant on their developmental abilities. Please refer to the table below. Achievement Effort and Behaviour Prep Years 1 2 Years 3 10 Australian Curriculum: Very High A Applying High B Making Connections Sound C Working With Developing D Exploring Support Required E Becoming Aware Queensland curriculum: Comment Comment Very High High Sound Developing Support required Excellent Very good Satisfactory Needs attention Unacceptable Students achieving working with, sound or C are working at year level expectations. Read reports with your child We encourage you to actively engage your child in the reading and discussion of their report cards. Look at: their strengths what they have achieved areas they have found challenging. Research tells us that it is important that children are active owners of their learning. So encourage your child to talk with you about their achievements and any suggestions their teacher has made about how they may improve. Chess Club Every Thursday morning we have chess lessons from 7:45am 8:30am in the community room. Chess at Brisbane Central is open to all students from prep to year six with a cost of $100 for the next term. For further information please contact Ms Connie Pizzato on 0409 794 745. Happy learning, Leesa-Maree Jedras ljedr1@eq.edu.au

Music News Congratulations on a great Concert! What a great turnout of students and parents for our Afternoon Music Soiree. Students in our Senior Instrumental, Senior and Junior Choirs and Drama Club did us proud showing off all that they had learned this semester. They performed with great enthusiasm, focus and sense of ensemble. There was a great breadth of repetoire exhibited, with songs such as the band's "Star Wars", Junior Choir's "Rockin Robin" and Senior Choir and Drama Club's "Jungle Book" selections that added to the entertainment. A big thank you goes out to teachers Mr McIntyre, Ms Wall, Miss Ross and Miss Ashcroft for all the hard work that they have put in to making this event such a success. Thank you also to those teachers who came along to show their support for music and arts at Brisbane Central. It is much appreciated. Lastly a sincere thank you goes out to parents for their support. Getting your children to rehearsals, monitoring their practice and attending performances takes commitment. Thank you for giving your children the gift of music and the arts.
