Cardinal Newman High School Letter Award 2013 Each year the school holds a School Letter Awards presentation in June. This award recognizes and provides honour to students who have contributed positively to the spirit of the school. To this end, the following criteria have been established with regard to the awarding of this honour: The recipient must exemplify the standards of Catholic practice that flow from commitment to the school and his/her Christian faith. Points will be allotted for participation in the three areas of Academics, Athletics and Co-Curricular. The student must have a total of 120 points to qualify for an award. Each candidate must have a minimum of 40 points from each of the three categories. These points must be collected within a 4 year (grades 9-12) period and will involve only participation in Cardinal Newman activities. Points must be obtained prior to the student receiving his/her diploma. The candidate must have successfully completed 4 courses in religious studies, or be enrolled and passing his/her Religious Studies course at the time the application is submitted. A student failing one or more credits may not count any points accumulated during that semester. Eight credits, with an appropriate number in year 4, must be taken in any one year. The principal may give an award for exceptional services to the school. The principal has final discretion in awarding the School Letter. All athletic and co-curricular points must be verified by staff member s signature. Academic points will be verified by the School Letter Award Committee. A Cardinal Newman School Letter Award Recipient is a student who has demonstrated the behaviours and virtues consistent with Gospel Values and with the School Code of Conduct. Students who wish to apply for the School Letter Award must fill out the accompanying application form listing the various activities they have participated in and the years in which they participated. Each activity must be verified by the coach or teacher advisor. The application form must be returned to the guidance office no later than Monday June 10, 2013.
