GA S.T.E.M. CERTIFICATION GSMST was awarded the GA S.T.E.M. Certification by the State Dept. of Education. A science, technology, engineering, & math (STEM) school is one dedicated to the STEM education of every student within the school. The entire curriculum & every teacher are committed to preparing students for careers in a STEM field. Through this certification, the GA Dept. of Education recognizes & supports the critical contributions made by Georgia s STEM programs. 2016 NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE GSMST is a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and is recognized as an exemplary high performing school. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. S.T.E.M. EDUCATION AWARDS The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) and the TAG Education Collaborative announced GSMST as the winner in the category of STEM Certified School Outreach at the Fourth annual STEM Education Awards 2016-2017 GSMST TEACHER OF THE YEAR! Congratulations to Dr. Elfi Funk, GSMST Teacher of the Year. 2017 AATSP OUTSTANDING TEACHER The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese has named Jamie Vega as the Georgia Chapter AATSP Outstanding Teacher of the Year. GSMST RANKED MOST CHALLENGING HIGH SCHOOL IN GA The Washington Post ranked GSMST No. 27 in the country and No. 1 in Georgia. STAR PROGRAM AWARDS Greg Field has been selected as GSMST STAR Teacher for the 2017 school year. The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia's outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. 2016 GSMST SAT SCORE is 1870 GSMST is 411 points above the state average of 1459. GSMST is 386 points above the national average of 1484. GSMST is 367 points above the GCPS average of 1503. GSMST is 221 points above the next closest Gwinnett HS.

ACADEMIC LETTER WINNERS 114 GSMST students earned their academic letter for the 2015-2016 school year. To earn an Academic Letter, the student must have a combined 95% or higher average in all courses taken during the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 school year. 2016 NATIONAL AP SCHOLAR AWARDS 63 GSMST students achieved National AP Scholar recognition. This award is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 4.0 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more AP Exams. One GSMST graduate received recognition from the College Board for a perfect score on the AP Macroeconomics exam. He was one of 34 students worldwide to achieve the highest possible score. NATIONAL MERIT WINNERS 16 GSMST students have been named semifinalists for the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. 2016 GEORGIA AFFILIATE NCWIT AWARD The National Center for Women & IT (NCWIT) has selected a GSMST student as a 2016 Georgia Affiliate winner of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. She will be recognized for her computer related aspirations and for her outstanding aptitude and interest in information technology/computing; solid leadership ability; good academic history; and plans for post-secondary education. 2016 GEORGIA YOUTH OF THE YEAR A GSMST student was named Youth of the Year for Georgia by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He represented the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta and competed with more than 25 teens from Boys & Girls Clubs across the state. He was chosen for his strong leadership and unwavering efforts to make a difference in his school, club, and community. The prestigious Youth of the Year award is the organization s highest honor, recognizing teens from Clubs across the country who are working hard, investing in themselves, and demonstrating leadership. 2016 GEORGIA YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD 21st Century Leaders has selected a GSMST student as one of the top 20 youth leader recipients for the 2016 Georgia Youth Leadership Awards. BAND Congratulations to all Concert and Symphonic Band students on their performances on Friday and Saturday at LGPE! Both groups performed their most challenging programs in the school's history and received ALL superior ratings on stage and in sight reading One student made the second round audition for All-State Jazz Band. He had the 2nd highest score of any audition on all instruments in the county/district.

Five GSMST students were selected to the All-State Band. CHINESE A GSMST Senior received 3rd place in Level 4 at the Jiangsu Chinese Speech Contest held at Emory University. CHORUS GSMST Chorus students earned straight Superior ratings at LGPE including a perfect score from one of the judges. Chorus has 6 students who were accepted to the District 13 Honor Chorus. MATH TEAM The GSMST Math Team took 5th Place at the State Math Tournament. One GSMST student placed 15th individually while three other team members were invited to compete on the International ARML team. The Math Team competed in the Rockdale Magnet Math Competition with the Varsity A Team taking 3rd place. Two GSMST team members were also individual winners in the competition. The GSMST Math Team competed at the North Fulton Math Meet over the weekend and placed 2nd in the Varsity competition. GSMST students won Individual awards for 4th place and 5th place in the competition. GSMST students competed at the Luella Math Tournament and received individual 10th place awards in both Varsity and Junior Varsity divisions. MOCK TRIAL The GSMST Mock Trial team came away with six individual awards in the regional competition. Congrats to the entire team and to the outstanding lawyers and witnesses. MODEL UN KSUMUNC Twelve GSMST Model UN delegates represented Palestine, Zimbabwe, and Dominican Republic at the Kennesaw State University Model UN Conference. Awards were given for the following: Distinguished Delegate Award (Palestine), Best Delegate Award (Palestine), Outstanding Position Paper Award (Zimbabwe), and Outstanding Delegation Award (Palestine) GT MUNC Congratulations to the 35 GSMST Model UN delegates who did a great job representing the countries of Russia, Iraq, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea at the annual Georgia Tech Model United Nations Conference. Two GSMST students received outstanding delegate awards or their performances at the conference.

UGA MUNC The GSMST Model UN delegates received numerous awards for their performance in the UGA Model UN conference held in Athens. All delegates did a great job representing the policies and positions of their respective country. With over 500 high school students in attendance, GSMST walked away with the following honorable awards. General Assembly 3 Committee: Outstanding position paper for the country of Norway General Assembly 4 Committee: Outstanding position paper for the USA United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Committee: Distinguished Delegates Award for South Africa Outstanding Delegates Award for USA Crisis Committee KGB - Distinguished Delegate Award Crisis Committee Dr. Who s Entourage - Outstanding Position Paper ORCHESTRA Gwinnett County Honor Orchestra selected 11 GSMST students. One student was selected to the Kendall Honor Orchestra and ten students were selected to the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony. GMEA All-State Orchestra The GSMST Orchestra has 27 students who passed the first round auditions for the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Orchestra. These students will take place in the final auditions in January. The GSMST Orchestra has 11 students who passed the second round auditions for the GMEA All-State Orchestra. These students will represent GSMST in Athens along side the best players from across Georgia the first weekend of March. The GSMST Honor Orchestra performed at the Georgia Music Educators Association In Service Conference in January. The Honor Orchestra was one of only 2 orchestras in the state accepted to perform at the annual conference for Georgia's music educators. REFLECTIONS WINNERS Fifteen GSMST students are Reflections winners at the local school level for their competition entries in Musical Composition, Dance, Literature, Photography, Film, and Visual Arts. These students will now compete at the county level competition in January. State Reflections Winner A GSMST student received 1st Place in the State Reflections Competition in the category of Dance Choreography.

ROBOTICS Six GSMST RoboDragons VEX teams competed at the Collins Hill state qualifying tournament as part of the thirty-four team event. Five teams progressed into the championship rounds. Both Team 675C and Team 675D made it to semi-final competitions. Team 675C progressed to the finals, and their Alliance team won the tournament Championship. This win qualifies Team 675C for the Georgia Championship Tournament. The Red Robodragons (Team 2981) were the tournament Finalist Alliance Captain in the FTC State Qualifier. They placed 3rd in qualifying rounds before going on to the semifinals and finals and qualifying for the State FTC tournament. Team 2981 "Red Robodragons" competed in the Georgia FIRST Tech Challenge State Competition at Clayton State University. After qualifying matches, they had a record of 4 wins and 1 loss and were ranked in 8th place out of 36 teams. They were chosen to by the number 4 team to be in an alliance. During the semi-final rounds they lost to the 1st alliance grouping, but represented the school graciously. The RoboDragons 675A VEX robotics team competed at the North Forsyth High School VEX Qualifier Tournament and received the Design Award for the competition. This win qualifies them to compete in the upcoming Georgia State VEX Tournament. SCHOLASTIC ART & WRITING AWARDS A GSMST student received a National Gold Medal and a National Silver Medal for drawing and illustration. Her gold medal work will be displayed in the National Exhibition in New York. SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR 90 GSMST students placed in the GSMST Science and Engineering Fair. SCIENCE BOWL State Competition GSMST s Science Olympiad Team placed 4th among 24 teams at the State Science Olympiad Competition. Team members earned medals in 11 of the 23 events. Southeast Regional Tournament GSMST faced the best teams from Georgia and South Carolina in the Southeast Regional Science Bowl Tournament in Savannah. GSMST was undefeated going into the finals, and came away with second place. GA High School Sub Regional Competition The GSMST Science Bowl team took 1st place in the 2017 Georgia High School Science Bowl sub regional competition held at UGA. The team will now travel to Savannah for the regional tournament on February 25th.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD Science Olympiad Regional Tournament The GSMST Science Olympiad team competed in their assigned Regional Tournament on March 4th placing first and qualifying for the State Tournament. Medals were awarded for 1st through 4th place. GSMST's two competing teams came away with 1/4 of the 88 medals awarded in the 22 events that were ranked for competition. Team 1, the competition winner, earned medals in 16 of the 22 events. The GSMST Science Olympiad Team placed 2nd at the first invitational Science Olympiad tournament of the 2017 School Year at The Rockdale Magnet School of Science and Technology. Science Olympiad placed 2nd among 56 teams from 28 schools in the Brookwood High School Invitational Science Olympiad Tournament. STUDENT COUNCIL GSMST Student Council members received numerous awards at the GASC Conference at Rock Eagle. These included the 2017 Council of Excellence Award, 1st Place for outstanding website, 1st Place for outstanding citizenship/patriotism, 1st Place for outstanding community service, and an award for being the 2017 Executive Board Journal School for the GASC. TECHNOLOGY STUDENT ASSOCIATION (TSA) The GSMST Techno Dragons participated in the Georgia TSA State Leadership Conference in Athens, Georgia. After two days of intense competition, GSMST walked away with 21 top ten spots, and won 3rd place for Outstanding Chapter in all of Georgia! One GSMST TSA team member was also awarded the TSA Tommy Pitchford Scholarship. VISUAL ART A GSMST fine arts student was recognized as one of only 6 students in the world to receive a perfect score on her AP Portfolio. All State Art Symposium GSMST NAHS students received the following awards at the NAHS Conference an All State Art Symposium at Columbus State University. 1st Place figure sketch, 2nd Place figure drawing, 2nd Place graphic design, 3rd Place plein air painting, 3rd Place portrait drawing, and 4th Place in collaborative painting, A GSMST student also took the top NAHS honor winning the prestigious Helen Flemming Stone Scholarship. All-State Finalist The Georgia Art Education Association has selected a GSMST artwork submission as a District Finalist for All-State. Scholastic Art Awards 5 GSMST Art students were recognized by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers as

Scholastic Art Awards recipients. The GSMST students received 4 Gold Key Awards, 5 Silver Key Awards, and 7 Honorable Mentions. WORLD QUEST The GSMST World Quest team took 1st place in the Tennessee World Quest competition and will now advance to the National competition held in Washington D.C.
