ST PIUS X PRIMARY SCHOOL DUBBO NEWSLETTER East Street Dubbo 2830 Email: stpiusdubbo@bth.catholic.edu.au Website: www.stpiusxdubbo.catholic.edu.au Phone: 6882 3808 Fax: 6884 4519 Term 3 Week 1 Monday 13th July, 2015 Our vision for St. Pius X school community is that in providing a quality, positive learning environment, all children will reach their true potential and be witnesses to the Catholic faith. Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realise they were the big things. Dear Parents We hope you had a restful, relaxing and enjoyable break with the little darlings. We have certainly made a good start to this term with cold, icy conditions. However, we are very fortunate at St. Pius X as every room has perfect heating. Please ensure your child comes attired in their full winter uniform. Besides their jumpers they can also wear their school jacket this protects them from the cold winds. Jackets can be purchased from the school $35.00. Don t forget to write their name on all items of clothing. The dates for Term 3 are in this letter. It looks quite free at the moment. Please check each week as I m sure the spaces will fill up pretty quickly. Term 3 is a consolidation term with not many interruptions, so learning should be quite exciting and intense. Events for this week Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Uninterrupted learning Uninterrupted learning Uninterrupted learning Uninterrupted learning Years 1 & 2 commence their 4 week gymnastics program

Please don t forget to give some time for the Western Region Carnival in Week 2 on Thursday. If many people volunteer, you won t have to work for a long block of time. Donations of cakes etc. would be appreciated as children and adults get hungry during carnivals. Come on parents, do your bit as all children benefit from money raised. Thank you for your help. Well parents, try and keep warm and rug the children up for school. We don t want them catching the flu. Remember: Taking an interest in things is the best teacher you can have. God be with you Yours sincerely Heather Irwin Principal Dip T ELIC BED.MED Peachey Cup / Richardson Shield Congratulations to the Junior and Senior rugby league boys who took part in the Peachey Cup and Richardson Shield grand final day. NSW PSSA Cross Country We wish all the very best to Ella Penman and Millie Gooch who take part in the NSW PSSA Cross Country championship at Eastern Creek this Friday. We are very proud of you girls, you both work very hard and deserve every success well done and the best of luck safe travels. Winter Uniform The cold weather has really set in and we have had a term to get into a complete winter uniform. We had quite a few students not in complete winter uniform last term, it is a school expectation that ALL students need to be wearing winter uniform (including a tie). We thank you in advance for your support in the matter. Woolworths Earn and Learn St Pius X is once again taking part in the Woolworths Earn & Learn community program. They are giving away more than $5 million worth of educational resources. From July 15 th to September 8 th 2015, Woolworths will give you one Earn & Learn sticker for every $10 you spend in store. Place this sticker on the sticker sheet (available at www.woolworths.com.au/earnandlearn or in the school office) and send into school when complete, we have a collection box placed in the school office, collection boxes may also be placed at Woolworths. Thanks for your support.

Welcome back everyone. I hope all are well and ready for another big term. Year 3 are very excited as they are preparing for their First Communion this term and family groups begin this week. It is really imperative that you attend these groups each week as the preparation for the sacrament is most important. Please try to take your children to Mass during this time. We may require a school choir for one of the Masses so please keep this in mind. We have a few activities coming up this term that affect the whole school. These include NAIDOC Day, St Mary of the Cross Feast day and St Pius X Feast day. The Under 13 s NSW Cyclones made the Semi Finals, in what was a very tough week of competition, however went down to NSW Metro in a tight game, to finish 4 th on the ladder overall. Tom is the opening batsman for the team, as well as the wicket keeper and one of the top order bowlers. Tom had a great week and was successful in gaining selection to represent Australia at the 2015 World Indoor Cricket Federation Junior World Series later in the year.

Hi Everyone, On the 23rd July St Pius is hosting the Western Region Athletics Carnival. Greg and his team are working very hard to ensure that this runs smoothly and I'm sure it will go like clock work. As our school is hosting the carnival it falls to the P and F to run and man the canteen. Hayley and I have been working over the holidays to come up with a canteen menu that we think will work well. As such we need volunteers to help on the canteen, especially if you are going to be at the carnival on the day. If everyone could give an hour this would make the canteen operation so much easier. We will also be looking for some baked goodies to sell on the day. I have attached a copy of the roster to the newsletter. Please make contact with either myself or Hayley and let us know which hour you will be available to lend a hand. This year is also our last year in our 3 year tenure of the Melbourne Cup Trifecta. This has the potential to raise $24,000 for our kids. We currently have 3 positions available for Gold Sponsors. This costs $500 and ensures that your company logo is printed on every one of the 12,144 tickets. We will also publish your company logo in of our promotional material. If your company would be interested in this opportunity please contact me on stpiuspandf@gmail.com or on 0419 6550 39 all
