The College operates in the MacKillop tradition for girls from Years 7 to 12. Founded in 1964 by the Sisters of St Joseph, the College strives to live the motto 'Ad Altiora' (Ever Higher) as inspired by our founder St Mary MacKillop. Situated approximately 10 minutes from the Brisbane CBD, Our Lady's College enjoys good transport links by road and rail. The College also has a school operated bus service for students traveling from the east and west. Over the past six years, the College has undergone an extensive building program that positions the College to cater for a larger number of students. At our External Review, our Area Supervisor, Mr Mick Kelleher commented that "the changes to the College have not been merely cosmetic". Indeed, this has been balanced by excellent results recorded in NAPLAN, OP and VET offerings. Our enhanced curriculum, delivered by a highly professional staff, and the resulting outstanding student achievements, makes Our Lady's College sought after. Each year, the College takes a Mary MacKillop quote to inspire activity during the year. In 2017, our quote was "Let us show love in our acts'. From school celebrations to outreach activities, the quote was a lived and vibrant part of our community. Characteristics of the student body Our Lady's College is an Archdiocesan Secondary College for girls, established by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1964. The College has a current capacity to enrol 450 students. Many parents have chosen the school specifically because of its size, seeking a school where their daughters will be known as individuals, and not be lost in the anonymity of a large college. While the College is situated in the suburb of Annerley, many students come from outlying suburbs to the south and west of Brisbane. The multicultural nature of the college community is a source of pride and lends a rich diversity to classroom interactions and shared experiences. Culture is reflected in our students' dance groups which include Asian, Indian, African and Polynesian. Enrolments are drawn from as many as 24 different Primary Schools and 18 different parishes. Social climate The faith community seeks to uphold the ideals of Mary MacKillop and values excellence as embodied in the College motto, "Ad Altiora Ever Higher". Within the wider context of the universal Catholic Church, we believe in the important of the family and respect the dignity of each person. Our vision is to create reflective, self directed young women who live out Christ's mission, contributing positively to our changing world. We value tradition, excellence and community. In the realisation of this vision, our students are encouraged to support individuals and communities through service, performance and public work. Central to these activities is a recognition of the value of prayer and our links with the Josephite tradition. The College operates an extensive Pastoral Care program across all years and information about student protection and bullying prevention can be found via the College Website. Curriculum - our extra curricula activities Our Lady's students are offered a wide selection of cultural and sporting activities in both social and competitive arenas. Teams compete in organised competitions through CaSSSA in such sports as tennis, netball, swimming, athletics and Wednesday afternoon sports. A wide range of extra-curricular activities is offered to provide the girls with ample opportunity to broaden their experiences and education. Girls may choose to become involved in clubs such as: Cultural Dance groups, Bands and Ensembles, Benenson Society, Choir, Environment Committee, Homework Clubs, Liturgy, Big Sister (Peer Support), Photography, Public Speaking, Recycling, Readers Cup, Rosies Outreach, St Vincent de Paul, STEMCELL Club, and leadership development via the Student Representative Council. Parent, student and teacher satisfaction Feedback collected for our External Review and from parents at Parent /Teacher interviews, information evenings and from representatives of the College Board and Parents and Friends Association indicate a good sense of satisfaction with the College. Parents in general are very satisfied with the offerings at the College and the ability and dedication of the College staff. The opportunities to gather as a community to celebrate days such as International Women's Day with guest speakers, new parents dinner, year level afternoon teas and more formal occasions such as Information Evenings, allow for the exchange of ideas and generates change. Activities such as Open Days are always popular and visitors provide very positive feedback about our school offerings. Parent perceptions about our school operations also indicate high appreciation. An active Past Pupils' Association plans regular events throughout the school year and engages closely with the College Leadership Team. Parent engagement Our Lady's College welcomes the involvement of parents in their daughter's education. Parents are encouraged to become involved in the Parents and Friends Association and the College Board, and to become involved at various levels with the important decisions regarding the selection of appropriate courses of study at Our Lady's College. Primarily, contact is via the Pastoral Care Teacher and Pastoral Leaders, but contact through any member of staff is always welcomed. Parents are an important part of our College community and we look forward to their attendance and participation in events such as year level activities, Arts Evenings, displays and performances, Information and Parent/Teacher/Student evenings and other College presentations. SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS Achievements 7 Recorded in the local papers as a school that 'punches above its weight', makes us very proud of the commitment of our staff and students to achieving the best outcomes possible for each individual. Education of head, heart and hands is central to our mission. Students have engaged in outreach programs, had opportunity for reflection through participation in liturgies and retreat experiences, and have linked with tertiary institutions for extension opportunities. The College has an established practice of identifying annual goals. Improvements in literacy and numeracy are reflected in our very good NAPLAN outcomes; preparation of the new QCE are well underway with staff attending professional development opportunities and the establishment of a 2019 to ATAR Taskforce; and a positive learning culture established in our community. Future outlook The significant building programs of the past six years, together with successful student outcomes and a positive culture for learning, provides the foundation for a positive future for the Our Lady's College community. The External Review committee commended the College on the use of data to inform decision making - ensuring that excellent teaching learning practices are in place and that the College is fiscally responsible in its undertakings. The core strategic planning areas of a Strong Catholic Identity, Excellent Learning and Teaching, and Building a Sustainable Future are the cornerstones of our community. ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT 2017 4

Student well-being is managed proactively by our Pastoral Team that is led by our Assistant Principal - Student Well-being, and includes our College Counsellor, Campus Minister, Learning Enrichment Leader and Pastoral Leaders. As a Catholic school, due emphasis is also given to a deep understanding of our heritage in the Josephite tradition with staff having the opportunity to engage with members of other MacKillop schools in Australia at a Colloquium held annually. The College is committed to remaining abreast trends in Information Technology, Student Wellbeing and Leadership development of staff and students. A commitment to meeting accountability mandates occurred through attendance at Law seminars and Governance courses. Average staff attendance rate The staff attendance rate was 97.40 % in 2017.
