IEI Goa State Centre successfully hosts 25 th IEI convocation The Institution of Engineers (India), Goa State Centre has organised the Twenty-Fifth IEI Convocation and Technicians / Students Convention at Kala Academy Panaji - Goa on October 28-29, 2017. The major attractions of the program were the Job Fair, Technicians / Students Convention, AITC/AISC meetings and Convocation Ceremony. Registration The Registration Counter of the Headquarters was issuing the robes for the convocation and the Goa State Counters was handling the registration of the students and guests for the participation of the Convocation. The third counter was opened for the Registration of the Alumni members of IEI. The In charge of the Registration Committee was Er. Anwar Khan assisted by Ms. Arti Raul, Ms. Siddhi Arvind Chodankar and Ms. Sarika Ratnakar Naik. Minister for IT & Revenue, Shri Gopal A. Parsekar, and Commissioner for labour and Employment, Shri G.B. Dhanashetti, Major Gen. S. Bhattacharya, Secretary and Director General, Er. Gurunath M Naik Parrikar, Chairman of Goa State Centre and members of IEI Goa State centre were present for the inaugural function. The IEI conducted the Job Fair along with the interviews for the first time, for the students receiving the AMIE degree. The Job Fair was also open for the students from the Engineering Institutions from Goa.
The Job fair consisted of display of the profile, Activities and Placement requirements by the Companies through a stall in the Exhibition area provided at the Venue. The Job Fair was organised by The Institution of Engineers (India) Goa State Centre in association with the Office of the Labour and Employment, Regional Employment exchange, Model Career Service and the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries. The day long job fair started at 9.30 am and ended at 5.00 pm. It aimed to increase the employment opportunities for engineering students and offered wide range of selection to the recruiters. The Job Fair had participation of 19 Companies and witnessed around 600 students visiting the Job Fair. The Convenor of the Job Fair Committee was Er. Vaman Gaitonde, the other members of the Committees were Er. Gerard D Mello, Er. Chandrashekar Prabhudessai, Er. Yogesh Bhobe and Er. Rajendra Hegde. Inauguration of the All India Technicians / Students Convention The Inauguration ceremony of the All India Technicians / Students Convention was held at the Black Box of the Kala Academy. The Chief Guest of the event was Shri Rohan Khaunte, Hon. Minister for Revenue & IT, Shri Gopal A. Parsekar, Commissioner, Labour & Employment as Guest of Honour and Shri G. B. Dhanashetti, Principal, B. V.V. S Polytechnic, Bagalkot as Keynote Speaker. The other members present on the dais were Major Gen. S. Bhattacharya, Secretary and Director General, Shri Gurunath M Naik Parrikar, Chairman of Organising Committee, Shri Deepak A. Karmalkar, Hon. Secretary, IEI Goa State Centre and Shri Chandrasheker Prabhudessai, Organising Secretary. Er. Gurunath M Naik Parrikar presenting the welcome speech to the audience, also dignitaries lighting the traditional lamp. The programme began with a beautiful Invocation song by Mr. Bhanudas Umraskar. The Chairman of the Goa State Centre welcomed the dignitaries, guest and audience. In his welcome speech he also mentioned that when the members of IEI had approached the Hon. Minister, the Minister had accepted the invitation enthusiastically and was very happy to know that IEI is taking keen interest to bridge the gap between Technical Education, Industry and Skill Development. Bhattacharya Secretary and Director General addressed the gathering.

While delivering the keynote address to the audience, Prof. G B. Dhanashetti explains that the skill and knowledge are the two faces of the same coin. According to him, there are three challenges before us, first to accelerate the pace of development, secondly to create jobs for trainees and finally put whole ecosystem in order. He also explains the concept of Community College which is empowered to grant diploma/degree in the domain of skill. Prof. Dhanashetti further stated that the biggest challenge is tying Industry and the Institution. He also mentions that India is having only 2.3% workforce of formal training and it need to be increased on the level of other countries who are dominating the workforce in formal training like UK having 68%, Germany 75%, Japan 80%, South Korea 96% etc. Er. On this occasion the Souvenir was also released by the dignitaries. The Immediate Past Hon. Secretary Shri Yogesh Bhobe introduced the Chief Guest. The chief Guest appreciated the organisers for conducting such type of program. He also felt that conducting such type of program is the need of the hour, and as such type of programs should be organised every year. He even told that his Government want to capture the base of Information Technology Professional in Goa.

All India Technicians / Students Seminar The All India Technicians /Students Seminar was held at Black Box, Kala Academy on the theme Role of Engineers towards Skill India Mission. Seven Authors presented their papers on Seminar session. The session was chaired by Dr. Jitendra Saxena, Director (EEA), IEI and papers were judged by a jury of three members Prof. Luis R. Fernandes, Prof. Joe Kurian and Prof. George Paes. A team of juries Prof. Luis R. Eight Authors presented their papers on topics of their choice. The

Meeting of IEI Alumni Association The Meeting of IEI Alumni Association was conducted at Black Box at 6 pm. The President of IEI AA, Dr. Enti Ranga Reddy was the Guest Speaker. Shri S A. Satyamurthy, Secretary IEIAA coordinated the meeting and Shri Tennavarajan Joint Treasurer IEIAA presented the slide presentation for the Alumni Members. Meeting of the All India Technician Committee & All India Students Committee Members of All India Technical Committee Members of All India Students Committee The meeting of All India Technicians Committee was held at Meeting Room of Kala Academy Panaji at 9.30 am. Prof. (Dr.) T S Kamal chaired the meeting with the following members present namely Dr. Enti Ranga Reddy, Mr. Ramesh Chandra Shrivastava, Mr. Arvind Singh Bakshi, Mr. Sanjay Sen, Mr. R R Tanwar, Mr. Ved Prakash. The meeting of All India Students Committee was held at Meeting Room of Kala Academy Panaji Goa at 11 am, chaired by Mr. K C Sethi. The Members presents were Dr. Nutan Kumar Das, Dr. M Chowde Gowda, Mr. Ranveer Singh Chauvan, Mr. Devendra Gill, Mr. B Brahma Reddy, Prof. Malwale Nitin Pandurang. Er. There was a fruitful discussion between Major Gen. S Bhattacharya, Secretary and Director General, Er. Siddharth Kuncalienkar and the members and officials of IEI.

Shri Gurunath M Naik Parrikar, the Chairman of the Organising Committee welcomed the gathering. Then the President IEI Shri Navinchandra B Vasoya, presented the convocation address. In his convocation address he expressed that his dream was fulfilled by Goa State Centre by organising Job Fair first time during the convocation and he also expressed that such type of program should continue every year during convocation. The presentation of Graduates by Secretary & Director General and Exhortation by the President The Chief Guest was introduced by Major Gen S. Bhattacharya. In his introduction he mentioned that Shri Manohar Parrikar, is the First IIT Graduate to serve as Chief Minster who has been awarded a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2001 by IIT Bombay. He further told that that Mr. Parrikar is known to be a man of action and Principle, as he was responsible in streamlining a Defence Procurement Procedure and also indigenization of Defence Manufacturing. Thereafter the Chief Guest gave his convocation address. In his address he expressed that Engineering is the best profession. He still considered himself as a good Engineer, he still designs, on many occasions when he was the Defence Minister and when certain dilemma occurs, he have suggested the way out as Engineering has given him a logical thinking pattern. He expressed that Technology is reducing the availability of jobs and also creates new jobs, so one has to upgrade himself, he has to catch on the skill which is required and challenges before us. According to him, India is very low in skill trading, so he urged Engineers to develop skilling program which will take care of crores of unemployed youth. He further expressed that, Diploma holders as working Engineers know practical aspects and by acquiring degrees now, they will be facing designs and other aspects. So according to him, AMIE degree holders are
having double advantage. K. Mishra, Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Goa who delivered the Convocation Key note Address. In his keynote address he imparts the knowledge on twenty mission Skill India program, Bharat Nirman Program etc. He also explained the way Engineering solution has given to create an affordable membrane through clay with the help of innovative ideas to the product by the students which was used by common people usually Iron ore belt of India.
