PAGE 2 POST-SCRIPT VOLUME 11, ISSUE 1 Dear Phi Delta Chi Alumni, Alpha Sigma Collegiate Chapter - Marco Villa Raffle The time has come again for the annual Phi Delta Chi sponsored Marco Villa Award Faculty Raffle. For those of you who do not know, the raffle is held annually in the spring to raise money for the Marco Villa Memorial Award. Marco Villa was a former Phi Delta Chi Worthy Chief Counselor here at UIC. His life was tragically cut short in his P-4 year due to a heart condition. The Award fund was created to honor Marco s memory. Every year the proceeds of this raffle are added to the growing award fund. Thanks to continued faculty and alumni support, the Alpha Sigma chapter is able to present this award for the 3 rd time to a P-3 student. A portion of the proceeds from this years raffle as well as subsequent raffles will increase the base of the award. The members of the Alpha Sigma Collegiate Chapter of the Phi Delta Chi Fraternity would be most appreciative of any donation that you may be able to offer for the raffle. Any donation no matter how great or small will allow us to continue to offer this important scholarship to P-3 students. In years past, popular donations have included gift certificates to restaurants and bookstores as well as various retailers such as J- Crew and Victoria s Secret. School related prizes such as textbooks and registrations to national meetings have also been popular. If you should choose meeting related prizes, it may be wise to limit the prizes to members of the organization involved to avoid problems. Don t let these suggestions limit you. Feel free to be creative! We love an original idea. This year, the raffle will be held in the COP lobby between April 3 rd and April 14 th 2006. The exciting and suspenseful drawing will be held in the COP lobby at 12:30PM on April 14 th. All students, alumni and faculty are invited to attend. We ask that all donations be turned into Lauren Cartwright (P3) using the accompanying form before March 31, 2006. These forms can be turned into the box located in OSA or Lauren Cartwright s mailbox (email for shipping information) to Lauren Cartwright at lcartw1@uic.edu. The members of Phi Delta Chi would like to thank you for your time, and we hope to hear from you soon! Sincerely, Lauren Cartwright Worthy Keeper of Finance lcartw1@uic.edu

PAGE 3 POST-SCRIPT VOLUME 11, ISSUE 1 Alpha Sigma Collegiate Chapter - Marco Villa Raffle Form Marco Villa Memorial Scholarship Raffle Please provide the following information and return this form to OSA or Lauren Cartwright s (P-3) mailbox or via e-mail (lcartw1@uic.edu) by March 31, 2006 Name: Department: Description of Prize: Eligibility (who is eligible to win the prize): Dean Rosalie Sagraves Steps Down As UIC College of Pharmacy Dean To the Faculty and Staff, College of Pharmacy: At the College of Pharmacy faculty meeting on Tuesday, February 7, Dean Rosalie Sagraves announced her intention to step down as dean and return to the College's faculty on May 16, 2006. Dean Sagraves has accomplished a great deal in almost eleven years as dean. She has brought stability to the College, galvanized the faculty around strategic planning, and seen the College through several accreditations. Her vision for pharmacy education has shaped a first-rate Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, assuring that our students enter the profession in a highly competitive position. Graduate programs in the College are attracting better qualified students and the newly established PharmD/PhD joint degree program should enable more professional students to attain both degrees. The College has enjoyed a significant increase in external funding during Dean Sagraves' tenure, and she has invested considerable effort into building valuable relationships with external constituents and alumni. While it is not practical to list the entirety of her achievements here, suffice it to say that I am grateful for the leadership Dean Sagraves has provided. It is a sentiment shared by many at UIC. I will be moving rapidly to constitute a search committee and begin a national search for Dean Sagraves' successor. It is not likely that I will identify a new permanent dean before May 16, so I will also begin a consultative process to identify an interim dean before that date. Times of transition such as this can be unsettling for the many people deeply invested in the College. I will make every effort to ensure a consultative, thorough and rapid search process. The College is positioned well to attract strong candidates who can build on Pharmacy's long and distinguished history. New scientific discoveries, and their translation into preventative and therapeutic successes, are expanding opportunities in pharmacy rapidly. Your many contributions to the UIC College of Pharmacy, among the best in the nation, are greatly appreciated. Sincerely, R. Michael Tanner Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
