Expectations for The End of The Year Attendance Behavior Obligations

Obligations Letters will be sent out if your student has an obligation. Just because your student does not have an obligation right now, he or she may acquire one before the end of the year (textbooks, sports uniforms, senior fees, etc.)! Seniors can pay obligations with checks until April 22 nd. After April 22nd, seniors can only pay with cash.

Obligations Obligations must be paid or your student will not be able to buy prom tickets, participate in graduation rehearsal, or participate in graduation ceremonies. Any questions? Please call Carol Lee in the financial office at 301-840-4799.

Student Service Learning Hours The vast majority of seniors have finished their hours for graduation. If your student has not completed his or her hours, you should have received a letter over spring break. Seniors who have not completed their hours will not be able to attend prom, graduation rehearsal, or graduation.

Student Service Learning Hours Opportunities for SSL hours are listed on the QOHS and MCPS websites. Seniors with 260+ hours will receive the Superintendent's Certificate of Meritorious Service and will receive a special tassel to wear at graduation. Senior Fee Your student s senior fee covers the cost of his or her cap and gown as well as other expenses related to graduation (tickets, programs, flowers, etc.). Senior fees are now $75, and any unpaid senior fees after 4/29 will be given an obligation. Senior fees must be paid to Mrs. Burdette or online via the QOHS website.

Graduation Rehearsal Date: Tuesday, May 31st at 7:45 a.m. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY! Any student who does not attend will not participate in the graduation ceremony. Breakfast will be provided. We will review expectations for graduation day and practice the processional, recessional, and walking on stage. We will run through the entire ceremony.

Graduation Wednesday, June 1st at 2:30 p.m. at D.A.R. Constitution Hall Graduation Tickets Caps and Gowns Note the Time! Transportation and Parking What to Wear? Expectations at Graduation Ceremony Handicapped Access

Graduation Tickets Tickets will be handed out at graduation rehearsal. Each student will receive 6 tickets. You may request extra tickets in writing to Ms. Heller. The deadline is April 22nd. Please include contact information. You will be notified by May 9th whether you received extra tickets. ALL guests MUST have a ticket to enter Constitution Hall. Graduates do not need a ticket (gown).

Caps and Gowns Each student will receive a cap, gown, and tassel. Caps, gowns, stoles, and tassels will be handed out during lunch in May once they are delivered. Honor society and other distinguishing cords and stoles will be handed out to students by each organization.

Note the Time! Graduation will begin promptly at 2:30p. m. Graduates are expected to arrive at Constitution Hall no later than 1:15p.m. Seniors must be in processional line in order to participate in the ceremony.

Note the Time! Parents and guests will be permitted to enter Constitution Hall using the 18 th street entrance at 1:45 p.m. The doors will close at 2:15 p.m. to allow time for the lobby to clear in preparation for the processional. No one will be allowed to enter Constitution Hall while the processional is taking place.

Transportation and Parking LEAVE IN PLENTY OF TIME!!! We recommend leaving your house no later than 12:45 p.m. If taking Metro exit at the Farragut North Station on the Red Line. It is a 10-15 minute walk to Constitution Hall. Be advised that Metro may be very crowded at this time of day.

Transportation and Parking If driving please allow time for traffic and parking. Parking on the street is difficult and limited at D.A.R. There are parking garages located in the area on New York and Pennsylvania Avenues, and 17th and 18th Streets, but these will fill up quickly at this time of day.

Transportation and Parking PTSA buses The PTSA is coordinating charter buses for graduating seniors, their families, and others in the QOHS community. The cost is $17 per person and seats must be reserved by Tuesday, May 3rd. Reservations are first come, first served. Any questions, please contact Tara Kavadias at tarakavadias@yahoo.com or 240-476-6715. The order form is on the QOHS website.

What to Wear? Girls Cap (tassel on right), gown, stole, medal dress or blouse with a skirt or long pants, and dress shoes. Clothing, jewelry, or accessories should not be visible on the outside of the gowns. Girls should avoid wearing large drop earrings. Boys Cap (tassel on right), gown, stole, medal long dress pants, dress shoes with socks, and a white shirt with a collar. Jewelry should not be worn on outside of gown.

What to Wear? Students are not allowed to decorate their cap or outside of their gown. Purses, cosmetics, hair brushes, etc. can not be taken into the graduation ceremony.

Expectations at Graduation No filming or photography is permitted from the aisles or in front of the stage. A video of the graduation ceremony will be available for purchase. Each student deserves to have his or her name read. Please do not applaud or yell over other students names. Students will NOT be permitted to throw their cap at the end of the ceremony. Students must show their own cap to pick up their diploma. Security personnel at Constitution Hall have the authority to remove individuals who are not in compliance with ceremonial guidelines.

Handicapped Access Handicapped access to Constitution Hall is located at the D Street entrance. There is designated handicapped seating for the ceremony. The designated handicapped seating is for the person requiring assistance and for ONE other person (companion seat).

Handicapped Access and Additional Services You must request handicapped seating from Ms. Heller in writing by April 29th. Along with your tickets, you will receive a voucher that allows you to use the handicapped seating. This voucher does NOT count as a ticket, handicapped guests will need a voucher AND a ticket. A voucher is also needed for those who require hearing impared sign language interpretation.
