Reed Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development Education - Meade County 4-H Enrollment (new and old) NOW is the time!! Now is the time to re-enroll to be a 4-H member. The enrollment form can be accessed via our website: https://meade.ca.uky.edu/content/4-h-enrollment. The deadline to enroll in an animal science project club was Wednesday, October 31, 2018. The deadline to enroll for the 2018-2019 program year is Friday, December 14, 2018. Anyone not enrolled or re-enrolled by this date will be removed from our county mailing list meaning you will not receive the 4-H Newsletter or program information. Enrollments will be taken throughout the year, but we advise you to do this now rather than later. Please share this information with friends that are not currently enrolled in 4-H so they can be added to our mailing list to receive information about upcoming program opportunities. 4-H Home School Experience Our 4-H HSE programs have been a wonderful addition to our 4-H program this year! So far, we have had an informational meeting, SET/ Aerospace day and Natural Resources day! We do have a few available spots if additional members are interested. Program is for ages 5-18. Only parents of Clover Bud members, ages 5-8, need to stay each month to assist with hands-on activities. Our next program date is November 20 th and our 4-H Core topic is AGRICULTURE. It is SO VERY IMPORTANT that if you are planning on attending that you call 270.422.4958 and RSVP with the number of family members that will be attending. DEADLINE to submit application: Friday, November 2, 2018 4-H encourages young people to set and achieve their goals. To that 4-H end, the Kentucky 4-H Achievement Program was created to reward Achievement ambitious and accomplished young people throughout the state. In the Achievement Program, young people receive recognition and Program prizes for their accomplishments in 4-H and their community. 4-H ers can start accumulating points as soon as they start 4-H and begin earning recognition in the sixth grade. As the new 4-H program year begins, now is the time for 4-H ers to start thinking about their goals and how the Achievement Program could help. There are county level and state level awards. NOW is the time to start recording your 4-H achievements for the past year, as well as your other school/community achievements so that you are ready to complete the application. Members, grades 4-6, can begin NOW creating their 4-H resume for official submission in 7th grade. Members, grades 7-12, can submit application for consideration for county and state level awards. TLA Class of 2019 Meade County Delegates Julia Jones, Isaiah Burrington, Luke Millay, JuliAnn Faulkner and Laney Nye. The 4-H Teen Leadership Academy (TLA) is a program designed for 4-H teens in grades 8 th 11 th to learn and understand more about leadership opportunities in the area in which they live, both outside and inside of 4-H. TLA delegates are 4-H teens from each of the following counties: Breckinridge, Grayson, LaRue, Hardin and Meade. Over the next school year, TLA delegates will learn about civic responsibility, volunteerism, college & career preparation, media & PR, city & county government, public speaking, manners & etiquette and business & industry. Meade County will have TWO delegates representing us at the 2018 Issues Conference in Jabez, KY, November 15-18. Issues conference is a four day leadership conference where youth attendees gain skills necessary to deal with issues in their community. The goal of Issues Conference is to give KY youth the chance to learn the process to address the issues in local communities. Our two delegates are: JuliAnn Faulkner and Ellie Bruner.

4-H Rabbit Club Hop on down to the next Rabbit Club meeting! Club leaders Ms. Olivia and Mr. Scott are ready to get the year started! The November 14 th meeting will start at 6:30 pm and will be held at the Extension office. 4-H Poultry Club The hens and roosters in this 4-H club house will have their first meeting on December 13, 2018, at 6:00 pm. Make sure to keep up with all club information by looking at the Poultry Club tab on our 4-H website: https://meade.ca.uky.edu/ content/4-h-poultry-club. Livestock Clubs Meeting Dates Set The deadline to enroll in one of our 4-H Livestock Clubs (i.e. Sheep, Goat, Swine or Beef) was Wednesday, October 31 st! Club leaders are excited about this upcoming program year and have LOTS of educational programs planned for their members. We will once again be doing the 4-H Livestock Reality Store in early 2019 details to come soon! Make sure you check out each clubs tab on our website for a complete list of club meeting dates for this year. November meeting dates include: Beef Club: November 6, 2018, Cattlemen s Dinner Goat Club: NO NOVEMBER MEETING Sheep Club: November 13, 7:00 pm Swine Club: November 27, 6:00 pm 4-H Members enjoyed making appetizers during our September meeting and two entrees during our October meeting. We have such skilled and talented cooking hands! Our next meetings are scheduled for November 8th and November 27th, from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. We will be preparing bread and salads. Cooking School At the end of our time together, these members will be able to prepare a complete meal for their families LUCKY FAMILIES!!

2018-2019 Meade County youth, grades K-3, have the chance to join a 4-H Club that will meet monthly and is tailored to their age group! Meetings are held at the Extension office from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A parent/guardian is expected to stay & attend with their Clover Bud. Enrollment in 4-H will be required if not a current 4-H member. RSVP at 270.422.4958 so we know to expect you! $10.00 registration fee MEETING DATES NOVEMBER 28, DECEMBER 19, JANUARY 23, FEBRUARY 27 MARCH 27, APRIL 24 and MAY 13 NEW CLUB OPPORTUNITY - 4-H Dog Club The Kentucky 4-H Dog Program encourages youth to develop character, self-esteem, discipline, and responsibility. The dog serves as a tool in the growth of each individual. Club members will explore dog care, health training and much more! NEW Dog Club leader, Mrs. Mary Gavin, invites any 4-H member, ages 9-18, and their parent/guardian interested in learning more about this NEW club, to attend a club informational meeting on Thursday, November 15 th at 6:00 pm at the Extension office. During this informational meeting, families will learn what opportunities are available through the 4-H Dog Club, expectations of members, parents and their dogs, schedule of meetings and obedience for the club year, possible expenses associated with this 4-H project and have a chance to ask questions. Please DO NOT bring your dog to this meeting this is for people only. Please RSVP to 270.422.4958 if you want to attend this kick off meeting. Did you know that as a 4-H parent you are welcome to attend the 4-H Council meetings? Well, you are and we welcome any new faces for the upcoming program year. The 4-H Council is made up of 4-H parents and volunteers who provide guidance and support for the overall Meade County 4-H Youth Development program. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 19th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office. Please JOIN US and become an active adult volunteer for the program! 4-H Volunteers NEEDED Could it be YOU? Become a 4-H Volunteer today and help create life-changing experiences for youth in Meade County! We are currently seeking 4-H Volunteers to fill the following roles: Cooking Club Leader(s), Shooting Sports Club Leader(s), and Adult & Teen Camp Counselors. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application and successfully pass all background checks. Please contact the Extension Office to receive an application and to talk to Deana about volunteering.

4-H Teen Lock In What happens when you have 17 teenagers, two 4-H volunteers, one mom and one 4-H Agent in a room for five hours?!?! LOADS of fun, food and fellowship! The Meade County 4-H Teen Club hosted its first event of the year on October 20th with a Lock In at the Extension office. Members competed in a selfie scavenger hunt, ate LOTS of pizza, played games, watched a movie and had the BIGGEST indoor scrabble game they have ever seen! The 4-H Teen Club will be meeting on a monthly basis, so watch your mailbox, emails and/or text messages for updated information. Any Meade County teen, ages 13-18, are invited to join us pick up a 4-H enrollment form now and return it to be added to our 4-H Teen mailing list.

Mrs. Angela Dodge is serving as our 4-H Sewing leader again this year and she is so excited to invite NEW members. Sewing club is meeting every Tuesday at 6:00 pm through mid- December. Meetings are held in the craft room at the Extension office and parents are asked to stay for their child s first meeting to learn more about what will be happening during club time. All of the funds raised will go back to our council to support youth programs! The following procedure must be followed to register your Kroger Plus Card online: Meade County 4-H Youth Development has been enrolled into the Kroger Community Rewards Program. Participants can begin enrolling online. Anyone can go to the following web site http://www.krogercommunityrewards.com and begin enrolling. We have been assigned a NEW organizational number: NF093. Please log into your Kroger card account and update our number in your account.

4-H Holly Day Join us as we kick off the holiday season with food, fun and 4-H friends! Youth, ages 5-18, are invited to join in on December 20 th from 10:00 am 1:00 pm at the Extension office. We will be playing games, making simple crafts and creating tasty holiday foods. There is a $10.00 registration fee, which covers lunch, supplies and ingredients. There are only 15 spots available and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

2019 4-H Summer Camp The weather is getting cooler, the leaves are falling and the holiday season is just around the corner! BUT, don t fret, SUMMER will be here before you know it! Meade County will once again be attending 4-H summer camp in 2019 at the WKY 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs, KY. SAVE THE DATES: June 30-July 3, 2019. More details will be available soon! We will once again be offering camp gift certificates that can be used as holiday or birthday gifts. Certificates can be purchased in increments of $10.00. Please stop by the Extension office to buy yours today!
