Used Uniform and Dancewear Sale We still have a large number of items available from our used uniform and dancewear sale. We have decided that we are going to give families another opportunity to purchase items. On Thursday, October 25, we will be displaying items in the Multi-Purpose from 3:30-4:15 and on Friday morning from 7:30-8:15. This will be the last opportunity to purchase used items. Following the sale, we will need time to reconcile all sales. Items not sold will be returned to students in their homerooms. Funds acquired through the sale of items will be distributed in early November. Parents will receive a notice of payment. Please be patient. Please Note: After the Class will be relocated to the library on Thursday October 25, 2018. Wool You Help? Ms. Mongillo is looking for help. The Grade five students will be starting a weaving unit using looms and wool. We are searching for donations of wool that people might not be using. We would be happy to take full or partial rolls of wool, any style and a variety of colours. Donations can be dropped off at the main office. CWSA Performance Uniform Day CWSA will be having a performance uniform day on Friday November 9, 2018. On this date all CWSA students are expected to be at school in their performance uniform for the full day. Complete details on the performance uniform are available below. Students are able to bring a sweater/sweatshirt to wear in class as required. CWSA Performance Uniform Claude Watson School for the Arts has a performance uniform that students must wear when the school is performing (Celebrations, Reflections and other opportunities). Students might also be required to wear their performance uniform during trips to concerts, galleries or performances. Each autumn CWSA has a performance uniform day to ensure all students have the required uniform for upcoming performances/school trips. We have 2 dates in November where students need to have their uniforms: Friday November 9, 2018 Full Uniform for Check Day/Remembrance Day Assembly Thursday November 22, 2018 Grade 5 students must wear their uniform on their trip to the theatre Here are details about the uniform: Each student is required to wear the CWSA blue navy blue polo this is only available from CWSA and can be purchased using School Cash Online Each student is required to wear Khaki pants or a khaki skirt. Uniform Support CWSA requires all students to have a performance uniform. Please contact the office if you need any assistance getting the required uniform items. We are committed to ensuring all children in our school have the items they need to successfully participate in all aspects of our program. Dance Clothing Over the past few years it has become harder and harder for CWSA to order the dance shirts for students. This autumn it has become evident that CWSA will no longer be able to order the same shirts that we have ordered in the past. Of course CWSA will always allow students to wear the orange/blue dance shirts as they are wonderful items and they support our program well. Today we are opening up Cash Online to sell the rest of the dance clothing we have in stock. We have a limited supply. We have reduced the prices and hope to get this clothing out to our students. If you are interested please check out our online store. On your right you will see a full list of remaining items. Items will be sold on a first come first serve basis. If we run out of an item we will of course offer the family a full refund. From the Student Council Hallowe en 2018? This Hallowe en, the Student Council has planned many exciting events as follows: Scary Story Contest: There will be two separate contests, one for the juniors (Grade 4-6) and one for the seniors (Grade 7-8). Students are invited to write an original story that is scary and Hallowe en themed. The stories should be within 500 words, and must be school appropriate. The submissions will start this week, and you may submit your story to the Student Council email: cwsa.council@gmail.com. The winner will have their story on the weekly update, and everyone will receive a participation prize. Art Showcase: Students are invited to participate in this year s Art Showcase. Please submit online art to the Student Council email and any other type to the office. Any art that is entered will be posted around the gym for the students to admire during the dance, and will be returned after Halloween. It must be school appropriate, and it can be in any size. The art submissions will be starting this week. All students who submit an artwork will be awarded a participation prize. DIY Costume Contest: This year, we are continuing the tradition of the DIY Costume Contest. Your costume must be put together by yourself. Store bought items will not count, unless you have modified them or added them onto your handmade costume. There will be a prize for each class winner, and participation prizes. We will be taking a picture of the winners, which will be on the weekly update after Halloween. Food Drive: Our food drive begins Monday, October 22nd and ends Friday, November 2nd. The food collected will be donated to the food bank located in Corvette Junior Public School. You are encouraged to donate non-perishable boxed food, canned food, toiletries, baby food, and other items people would need. Please make sure that this food is not past its expiry date. A Reminder about Hallowe en Costumes Dressing up for Hallowe en is fun and exciting, but this day also provides an opportunity to discuss costume choices with our children. Dressing in a way that reduces a culture to a caricature suggests that that culture is less important than others. We ask that parents and students be sensitive as they select a costume to wear at school. In 2015 the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada published their recommendations to help all Canadians address the impact of residential schools on First Nations peoples across Canada. We are reminded of the important role First Nations peoples have in the continued development of Canada. The truth is that wearing an authentic Indian costume for Hallowe en caricaturizes significant regalia such as headdresses and jingle dresses, negating the fact that the right to wear these must traditionally be earned. On behalf of the Claude Watson community and the School Advisory Council I would like to extend a big thank you to the moms who generously gave up their time to assist with the Used Clothing Sale. Without your efforts the sale would not have been such a success. Congratulations! Claude Watson School for the Arts Page 5

Thanks to all the Volunteers We would like to extend a big thank you to the moms who generously gave up their time to assist with the Used Clothing Sale. Without your efforts the sale would not have been such a success. Congratulations! We would also like to thank Monica for her leadership and hard work getting the uniform sale up and running. A job well done! Please Sign In at the Office Parents, guardians and guests are reminded that it is a requirement of the TDSB that all adults sign in at the office when they enter the school. Ms. Larmour our Office Administrator will maintain a sign in / sign out binder on the main counter. Parents, adults and non-cwsa Staff/Students must report to the office before going anywhere in our building. WE NEED YOUR HELP: IF YOUR CHILD IS GOING TO BE AWAY OR LATE PLEASE NOTIFY THE OFFICE DAILY (BEFORE 8:20) BY CALLING 416-395-3180 This is a safety issue please do not just tell a teacher please let the office know. We appreciate your attention to this issue. Claude Watson School for the Arts Page 6
