Getting it Right for Children in Aberdeenshire: Training Calendar 2018 Aberdeenshire Community Planning Partnership is committed to working towards consistently high standards of practice across the children s services workforce by ensuring that staff are confident and competent, sharing a clear understanding of the principles, values and practices, including use of the national practice model, that underpin the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) agenda. Multi Agency training sessions for staff from these services in Aberdeenshire are being made available to support this commitment. Additional single agency training opportunities may also be available within individual services, but these workshops are not intended to replace multi agency sessions listed below. Who should attend? Anybody working in any service, either statutory or voluntary, that provide services to children, young people and their families in Aberdeenshire. Please note that this includes adult services staff who work with adults who are parents or carers of children. Children s Rights, Engagement and Participation This 75 minute workshop is suitable for anybody in any agency that provides services to children, young people and their families in Aberdeenshire. This workshop explores and highlights the essential focus of engagement with children and young people within GIRFEC with reference to the UCHR and UNCRC. Children s participation in discussions regarding their circumstances can present challenge, and this session aims to promote reflection on how this can be promoted, and signpost to tools and strategies which can be helpful. Information Sharing This half-day workshop is suitable for anybody in any agency that provides services to children, young people and their families in Aberdeenshire. This workshop will explain how sharing of relevant information supports multi-agency working in the context of promoting the wellbeing of children and young people and clarify the legal and policy context. Information sharing can provoke anxiety, this training will provide information, on personal and organisational responsibility in this regard, and promote an understanding of situations where consent to share information is required and where it is not, to develop confidence in practice.

The Named Person and Lead Professional This half-day workshop is suitable for anybody in any agency that provides services to children, young people and their families in Aberdeenshire, particularly those in Universal and Statutory Services who may assume both or either role. This workshop will provide an understanding of what is meant by wellbeing and its central focus within GIRFEC; explain the role and function of the Named Person and the Lead Professional; and raise awareness of those roles in practice and their context within Multi-Agency working. Assessment and Chronologies This full-day workshop is suitable for anybody in any agency that provides services to children, young people and their families in Aberdeenshire, particularly Universal Service Named Persons who will complete Single Service Assessments. Chronologies are useful tools in reflecting on individual circumstances and in contributing to Assessment in the context of highlighting patterns of experience or functioning and are a requirement within GIRFEC. This workshop will provide guidance on the completion of Chronologies by utilising the GIRFEC practice models and tools, and analysis of information gathered in the context of Assessment and potential next steps within the GIRFEC process. Multi- Agency Meetings This full-day workshop is suitable for anybody in any agency that provides services to children, young people and their families in Aberdeenshire. This workshop will describe and explore the process of arranging Multi-Agency Action Planning Meetings; the roles and remits of involved agencies in the context of identifying whom should attend, and how those roles and remits contribute to meetings focussed on promoting wellbeing of the children and families at the centre of process. Participants will apply knowledge and experience in a role-play of a Multi-agency Meeting with the aim of increasing confidence in participation, understanding of the roles and responsibilities of professionals and the impact of attending MAAPM s on children and their families. Action Planning: The Child s Plan This full-day workshop is suitable for anybody in any agency that provides services to children, young people and their families in Aberdeenshire. The workshop focuses on the process of devising and reviewing a Child s Plan, to achieve desired outcomes and promote wellbeing. This workshop will develop and build on existing awareness of roles and remits of involved services; explore how this can be utilised and stipulated within the Multi-Agency Action Planning process and progress on to how plans are reviewed, revised or concluded in subsequent Multi Agency Action Planning Review Meetings.

We recommend Named Persons and Lead Professionals attend all 6 workshops.
