DUAL PRINCIPALSHIP For the 2016-17 school year, Miss LaRocque will be doing a dual principalship. She will be the principal here at Zion, but she will also be the principal at Immanuel, Bay City. She will be in Zion s building everyday for a half day and at Immanuel for a half day. Mrs. Julie Gllumm has been named the vice principal and will be available to handle any concerns/situations when Miss LaRocque is not available. Miss LaRoque will be at Zion on Monday & Thursday mornings, and Tuesday & Fridays afternoons. On Wednesdays when Zion has chapel she will begin her days here at Zion and them transition at noon to Immanuel. On nonchapel days, she will begin at Immanuel and come to Zion at noon. In other words, she will be alternating her Wednesdays beginning with Zion on Wednesday, August 31. order to introduce and disciple a relationship with Jesus Christ, while developing talents and skills necessary for responsible Christian living and
This type of relationship is being used between other congregations in the synod. We prayu that our sharing relationship with Immanuel will grow in the Lord and prosper much fruit. God has blessed both congregations and we pray for His continued blessings on this working relationship. TEMPORARY DRESS CODE CHANGE Zion s Christian Day School Committee has temporary changed the dress code to allow students (boys & girls) to wear athletic shorts to school until further notice. The Christian Day School Committee will be reviewing the policy. FAST DIRECT Fast Direct is Zion Lutheran School s service that allows parents to view their child s grades and hot lunch account online. Teachers will post assignments & notes. Parents need to be enrolled into the system. You must have an e-mail address in order to use Fast Direct. For instructions and to receive your activation code, please contact the school office. ZION EDUCATIONAL ENDOWNMENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND Attention 8 th graders: Any student applying for a Zion scholarship toward Valley Lutheran High School tuition must have a 60% or above church attendance from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017 to be considered. NEWSLETTER INFO & DEADLINE If you would like something published in the Cougar Newsletter, please submit your items to the school office by 8:30 am on Thursday. The newsletter will be completed and e-mailed to families by Friday mornings. Hard copies will be available in the school office. Thank you. WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Church attendance is taken every week for students attending Zion. Awards are given at the end of the school year to students that have perfect church attendance or have worshipped at least 80% of the time. Here are the worship opportunities for the First Quarter: September 4, 11, 18, 25 October 2, 9, 16, 23 COUGAR COMMUNITY Students should arrive at school and be in their classroom by 7:55 am as the school day begins every morning at 8:00 am with our all school Cougar Community. This is a time when we gather as a family for a short devotion, the pledges to the American and Christian flags, and a closing prayer. It s a GREAT way to begin our school day. Students that arrive after the 8:00 am bell rings are marked tardy. Please help by getting your child to school and in their classroom by 7:55 am. PICTURE DAY Bring your smiles on Monday, September 26. All students will have their picture taken in grades Pre 3 through 8 th grade beginning at 8:30 am. Information will be sent home in the following weeks. The Pre 4 class will have their pictures taken on Picture Re-Take day, Tuesday, November 15.
MEDICATION AUTHORIZATION When sending medicine, aspirin or cough drops to school with your child, you will need to fill out a Medication Authorization Form in order for your child to be given the medicine. Prescription medication needs a Consent Form filled out by the doctor. These forms are available in the school office. VOLUNTEER FIELD TRIP DRIVERS If you think you will be driving on field trips this year, please stop by the school office so that a copy of your valid driver s license AND proof of insurance for the vehicle you will be driving can be made and kept on file. You must have filled out the necessary Volunteer Information Form and your name is on the approved list. This is being done to help decrease the risk of liability for our volunteer drivers and the school. Only those with this information on file in the school office will be asked to drive on field trips. Day Care hours are 6:30 am 5:30 pm. 1 st QUARTER CHAPEL OFFERING This years 1 st Quarter offering will be for our 8 th grade graduates who are attending Valley Lutheran High School. Our next chapel is Wednesday, September 14 at 8:15 am. Please join us! ZION COUGAR WEAR If you are interested in purchasing Zion Cougar Wear, please complete the order form and return to the school office with payment by Monday, October 17. This is the only time that you can order Cougar Wear for this school year. A sample & order forms are available in the school office. Any questions, please see Mrs. Laboda in the school office. HOT LUNCH NEWS STUDENT DIRECTORY Soon our annual student directory will be published including the names and addresses of Zion students in preschool thru 8 th grade. We take this information off the Student Information Form that you filled out when you registered. If there are any address changes, unlisted phone numbers, etc.; please notify the school office by Monday, September 26. If we are not notified, we will print the information provided on the Student Information Form. Thank you. BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM Students arriving before 7:40 am MUST go directly to the Day Care Room. After school students not picked up by 3:20 pm must go the Day Care Room. If you are going to use our Before & After School SATELLITE LUNCH PROGRAM For the 2016-17 school year, Bay City Public Schools will continue to provide our lunches for us. See the attached September 2016 menu. HOT LUNCH PRICES Hot lunch for a week this year will be $15.00 or $3.00 per day. Milk will be 50 per carton (extra milk and/or cold lunch). If your child would like a Second Entrée the cost will be $1.75. The second entrée will need to be ordered in the morning when lunch count is taken. Parents are welcome to join their student during lunch. The cost is $3.75 for an adult lunch. Please notify the school office by 9:00
am that day if you will be joining your student(s) during lunch. HOME/COLD LUNCH REMINDER Zion Lutheran School is still a participant in the National School Hot Lunch Program. We offer nutritious meals every day. If your child prefers to bring a home/cold lunch, please be reminded that we do not reheat leftovers from home. The lunch should be ready to eat. Please be reminded that fast food lunches are not permitted. If your child forgets their home lunch, we encourage your child to eat the hot lunch served for that day. Free and Reduce Lunch Applications are also available in the office to those who qualify. PTL NEWS PTL BOARD MEETING The next PTL board meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 14 at 6:00 pm in the school library. Parents are welcome to attend. PTL FUNDRAISER SMART CARDS Zion s PTL is pleased to announce that they will be selling Smart Cards coupon books containing thousands of dollars of coupons for local dining, golfing, bowling and much more as their fall fundraiser for only $20.00. Order forms were sent home with your children. Please help support our school by participating and letting friends and family know about this great deal. If you would like a copy please pick one up. MUSIC NEWS SAVE YOUR POP CANS AND BOTTLES Zion School is collecting cans & bottles to support the Good Samarian Rescue Mission. Please donate your returnable bottles & cans. There will be a blue plastic container in the office, so please bring in your returnables. Thank You. HYMN & SCRIPTURE VERSE Our hymn for the month of September is My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less (LSB 575). Each week we ll focus on a verse and correlate it with core truths of scripture. Be a saver. Stop in the library on Thursday mornings and buy a stamp for 25 or $1.00. Put it in your stamp savings booklet. Questions? Stop in on Thursday mornings or call Jan Vogtmann at 686-0356. 2 nd ANNUAL GOLF SCRAMBLE Zion Lutheran School is hosting its second annual golf scramble at Green Hills Golf Course on Saturday, October 15 at 9:00 am. It s a four person scramble. $200 per team includes 18 of the most wonderful golf holes in Mid-Michigan, cart, dinner afterwards, hole-prizes, and the opportuntity to support the athletic program at Zion Lutheran School. Don t forget to check out the SCRIP store on Saturday, Sunday or Monday after the church service. Select cards are available in the school office. Pop Cans & Bottles: Zion School is collecting cans & bottles to support the Good Samarian Rescue Mission. Collection box is in the school office. Christian Day School Committee Meeting: The Christian Day School Committee meets every fourth Monday of the month at 6:00 pm in the school library. The next meeting will be held on Monday, September 26. Parents are welcome to attend these meetings. Aunt Millie Bread School Spirit Program: Save the proof-of-purchase symbols (UPC s) with the School Spirit symbol from Aunt Millie s specially marked bread. Pop Can Tabs: We have already started to fill ice cream pails for next year. We have 2 pails filled. Keep bringing them to the school office. Proceeds from the pop tabs will be distributed to the Ronald McDonald House in Ann Arbor. General Mills Box Tops for Education: Keep turning in your Box Tops to the school office. Each box top is worth 10.
