CARVING TALK Www.rivervalleywoodcarvers.org May 2014 Presidents Note: 2014 marks 15 years for the River Valley Wood Carvers Club. It is a small milestone, but one that should be recognized. I would like to take the opportunity to thank our original members that are still able to regularly join us for monthly meetings. They share their skills, teach us new projects, and help all of us to become better at our craft. Our membership has grown because of the skills and fellowship that are an integral part of our Club. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY RVWC! Warmer weather not only brings out the lawnmowers and flowers, but also has us planning for the annual RVWC picnic. Dave and Nancy Chadwick have again opened their property to our membership to enjoy. This years date is June 21st and phone calls will be going out about the 2nd week in June. Find your fishing pole, a comfortable chair, life preservers to take advantage of the boats, and make plans to bring your family and join in the fun, food and friends. Thank you to Ezra Smith who photographed the Burlington Library exhibit and demonstration, on May 3rd. The Library was happy to have us for this first time exhibit with approximately 15 tables set up to support the event. This above event was an interesting idea that was brought to the board. Dick Middleton talked with the library, scheduled it, and a signup email/ sheet was put out and filled up quite fast. Results are in the pictures on page 5. We look forward to hearing from you. Sandee

Members Update: Donna Waller: is residing with her daughter in Savannah, Georgia. Physical therapy is going well and she will be reassessed about mid- May to determine how much more she will need. She wants to say Thank You for all the cards and letters she has received. Her address: 120 Cromer Street Pooler, GA 31322 Martha Pritchard: It is official, she has moved to Colorado. A new life is waiting for her near her son and daughter in law. Have a wonderful life Martha, we will miss you. Pat Scott: Ferd and I went to see Pat Scott yesterday at the Baptist Village Care Center. She was in physical therapy when we got there but very shortly she came rolling down the hall in her wheel chair. Typically, she had to stop and visit with people along the way. But when she saw us she was just delighted to have some visitors. We were both so pleased to see how well she is doing. Very up -beat about everything. She likes the facility and the food. She has two therapy sessions a day. And has a very positive attitude about everything. She admits she had about 8 days where she didn't know anything or anyone, but that is all behind her now. She is planning her future and really looking forward to it. We really came away feeling very good about our visit. I know she would be thrilled to see anyone from RVWC. By Dick Middleton Pat has moved to her sisters for now, will update when more is known. 2014 Bylaws Updates: Copies of Bylaws were emailed to everyone or sent thru the US mail to those on the mailing list. The bylaws committee has presented the first reading at the May 5th business meeting and will bring it to the membership one more time at the June 2nd meeting for approval. A proxy vote has been enclosed with the mail list members along with a copy sent out to the email list members. If you will not be at the meeting on June 2nd please return a copy of the proxy or call to make your vote count. October 4th River Valley Wood Carving Show Table Reservations As I write this an old saying comes to mind and I'm sure most of you have heard it before. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it." As with all plans for our daily lives and future planning, sometimes things fall into place and sometimes not. Such is the case in planning for our October show. All of us share a common interest in carving and our club. Why else do we show up? In saying this what is being offered in advanced table reservations is a show of faith and support for our club. Unity affords the opportunity for a successful show and good support from the community. I am aware that none of us can be assured that our individual plans could change at the last moment. Each day can be a rollercoaster ride. What we are asking is from each of you is to have faith in, and support, for your club by investing ten dollars for a GUARANTEED table. Thank you for your time. Mike Shelton Reservation money will be collected and tables reserved at each meeting. Ornaments for Kids: Is an annual club service project that helps our surrounding community. Your club has adopted a couple of childrens homes, we provide a tree and decorate it with handcarved and burned ornaments. 1. Ornaments are approx. 4-6 tall 2. Bright colors and subject matter that will catch a childs eye. 3. Put a hangar on it 4. Turn it into Ferd Kruetzkamp at a meeting. It is still a ways off, this reminder is to keep you thinking of it for when you have some spare time to carve/burn a small ornament. More information and updates will be coming soon at the June meeting. Newer members ask someone sitting near you about this project. Keep Smiling. :) And Thank you. Welcome new Member Patty Kaul Of South Dakota A friend of RVWC And Pat Scott. Library Update: River Valley Wood Carvers have been asked to demonstrate and exhibit at : Montfort Heights Library 3825 West Fork Rd, Cincinnati OH 45247 6:30-8:30pm Since this will be a meeting night and knife drawing held, anyone who represents RVWC at the library will have a ticket in their name entered into the drawing to say Thank you for your support.
