The service went well and we had the following special guests attend. Mr David Michael, MLA for Balcatta, Mr Mark Irwin, Mayor of the City of Stirling, Mr Giovanni Italiano, City of Stirling Councillor, Mr Adam Spagnolo, City of Stirling Councillor, Mr Norman Wells, returned Army Veteran of Australian Deployment in South East Asia, Malaysia and Vietnam, Mr Barry Telfer, West Australian Bugler, Mrs Betty Green, our School Patron, Board and P and C members. Liam, Gracie, Nadya and Aakash were the ANZAC poetry competition winners and they read their poems at the service. When dropping off or collecting your children from school please ensure you do not stop in front of driveways or in No Standing zones. Term 2 Dates Dance Lessons As a part of the Pre-Primary to Year 6 Performing Arts curriculum, we have booked Humphreys Dance Studio for 9 weekly dance sessions throughout Term Two. The sessions begin on Friday 4 May and will conclude on Thursday 28 June, with the School Social being held the same night. Parents are reminded that dance lessons are an important part of the Performing Arts curriculum at our school. Students always thoroughly enjoy these lessons so I urge all to participate. A note has been sent home with the students for payment and permission to be returned by Friday 4 May. Return to School for Students Students return to school next term on Tuesday 01 May as Monday 30 April is a Professional Development planning day for staff. Photo Day SCHOOL PHOTO DAY IS COMING! Our School Photos will be taken early next term, as follows; Years 1 6 Tuesday, 8 May Kindy A, Kindy C, PPC Tuesday, 15 May Kindy B, PPA, PPB Thursday, 17 May Kapture Photography order envelopes will be sent home with students on the first day of school next term. The recommended method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture s website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time. Alternatively, you can pay by cash and return the provided envelope to the class teacher on the photography day. Sibling photos need to be pre-ordered online. Children need to be in full school uniform on the day, with plain socks preferably white or black. School shoes should also be plain black or white if possible. Hair accessories should be in school colours. Late payment envelopes cannot be accepted by the school office or by Kapture. You can place an order online at any time for the remainder of the current school year however a $15 fee will apply if you order more than 10 days after photography. All students will be photographed individually on photo day for school administration records AS WELL as included in their class group photo available for purchase to all families. Should there be any reason why your child should NOT be included in the photo shoot please contact the school office. Keira van der Wal, Deputy Principal Donations The installation for 4 air conditioners into our classrooms is already having a positive impact on student learning. As a school we are keen to continue to roll out this program into other classrooms. If you would like to assist with making a donation towards the school s air conditioning project all assistance would be greatly appreciated. The cost for the instillation of an air conditioner is approximately $4,000. If you would like to donate any funds please email our Manager of Corporate Services, Vera Hick who will be able to give you options of EFT, cheque or in person as well as provide you with a receipt. All donations will be recognised and included in the newsletter unless requested otherwise. Megan Barnett, Principal Science Club Through our CSIRO Scientists and Mathematicians in Schools partnership, we will again be running an after school Science Club in Term 2, led by Nick Mortimer and Mrs van der Wal. This year we will be using our new Maker Space to create a selection of STEM projects. Science Club will take place on Monday afternoons from 3:00 4:15pm, from 14 May to 25 June. It is open to students in Year 4 6 and there is no cost to attend. Places are limited. Application forms will be distributed to interested students this week and need to be returned to Mrs van der Wal by Monday 7 May. Megan Barnett, Principal Physical Education News T20 Interschool Cricket Competition Congratulations to the 58 students from Years 4-6 who competed in the T20 Interschool Cricket Competition. It was held last Thursday 29 March at Charles Veryard Reserve in North Perth. Tuart Hill had 4 boys teams and 2 girls teams in this competition. Our Boys A team came second behind Yokine Primary School by 4 runs and our girls A team finished fourth. Many thanks to our staff members. Mr Steve Ioannou, Mr Tony Raschilla and Ms Cheeseman who coached our teams on the day. We would also like to thank the parents who assisted us on the day.

Lightning Carnival Term 2 Years 4-6 On June 21 (Week 8) we will be participating in our annual Lightning Carnival at Karrinyup Primary School. During Senior Sport next term, our students in Year 4-6 will be doing 2 weeks of trials. The students will need to select from netball, AFL or soccer. Once teams are finalised they will be training for this competition every Thursday. If any parents would like to assist us by coaching or managing a team during Senior Sport (Thursdays from 1.50-2.50pm) or at the event, please email me at Catherine.connolly@education.wa.edu.au School Board News Denise Dewing Cathy Connolly, Physical Education Teacher The next Board meeting will be held in Term 2, on Wednesday 16 May at 5.30pm in the staffroom. Jason Papps, School Board Chair P and C News Fundraising The THPS Fundraising Committee are hard at work raising funds for the supply and install of air conditioners for several classrooms. We have started off well with our Easter raffle raising $645.00 and the hot cross bun orders raising $715.00. Thanks to all the volunteers and for all the wonderful donations we received!
