NEWSLETTER THURSDAY, 28 APRIL 2016 Principal's Message ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONS Every picture tells a story at our Manly West SS ANZAC Day Ceremony and in the Manly-Lota RSL March students, staff and parents remembered all those who served our nation in times of war. With pride we remembered their courage, their compassion and their comradeship. Our servicemen and women have left us a splendid heritage. May we and our successors prove worthy of their sacrifices.

CLASS CO-ORDINATORS MEETING The next meeting will be on Friday, 29 May at 9:00am in the OSHC playroom. BUILDING NEW LEARNING SPACES What is coming to our middle oval? 1. A multipurpose court is being constructed on the middle oval it will include facilities for tennis, basketball and volleyball and be completed in Semester 2 this year. We are currently seeking to create a hire arrangement with a tennis coach who could provide tennis lessons for students before and after school. This would take on a similar format to our swimming school hire arrangement. Please make contact with Lisa Morrison if you are aware of a tennis coach who may be interested. 2. Middle Oval outdoor classroom the playground and surrounds are to be re-designed into spaces where children can learn as they play. Designers and landscape architect companies are currently in the process of drawing up proposals for this space. Our amazing P&C is working very hard to fund-raise particularly through grant writing. 3. Our long-awaited Art Space (aka old tuckshop) is finally under construction. Watch out for a very special place as it evolves into art hub central!! Nadia Butler and class teachers are already providing wonderful learning opportunities through visual arts. Year 6 student work displays in the school foyer are constant evidence of this wonderful learning. This art space will allow for family and community to explore their inner artist too. Ask your child what was the best thing they did at school today! All of it involves learning and encourages curiosity! Kind regards Lisa Morrison (Principal) Our aim - every day, in every classroom, every child learning and achieving! Positive Pathways to Learning This week our learning behaviour focus was :- RESPECT: Be in the right place at the right time

During the service we listened to a number of students who had won the Premier s ANZAC Prize in 2015, travelling to Gallipoli for the 100 th Anniversary Dawn Service, hearing poems and anecdotes they were able to share from this experience. Daina and Henry laid a wreath at the Cenotaph and were then greeted by His Excellence, Hon Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland and his wife Mrs de Jersey.
From Around the School We Need Your Help! This morning Miss Morrison, Daina, Jesse and I had morning tea in the Office. Unfortunately Amara, our other school captain was away sick so she couldn t attend. While we were eating, we started to discuss what we should do for a school event this year. We had a few suggestions, but we couldn t decide. We would like it to be a global cause. We would like the community to send suggestions into the Office. Thank you, Henry, School Captain District Cross Country Carnival Last week, Manly West SS sent a group of students to compete in the Bayside District Cross Country Carnival. Although no-one placed in the Carnival, the students are to be congratulated for doing their best and for representing their school proudly.
