in Lakhs CHAPTER 2 EMPLOYMENT IN ORGANISED SECTOR 2.1 During the period under review (2009-2010), employment in the organised sector showed an increase of 1.9%. It is revealed from the data contained in the table-4 that employment in the Private Sector recorded a significant increase of 4.5% in 2010 over the year 2009 while in Public Sector, employment has shown marginal growth of 0.4% during the same period. The overall increase was 1.9%. (State) Local Bodies (Branches) An analysis of employment in 2010 over 2009 of different branches of the Public Sector revealed that the increase was observed in Quasi Government (Central), State Government and in Local Bodies as 1.66%, 1.59% and 0.77% respectively, whereas Central Government and Quasi Government (State) showed a decline of (4.09%) and (0.47%) respectively. 3
EMPLOYMENT IN PRIVATE SECTOR 2.4 Employment in the Private Sector is classified by size of establishments. On this basis, the break-up of employment in the Private Sector by size of establishments is shown in the following table-6. The overall increase in employment in the Private Sector was of the order of 4.52% during the period under review. 5

The above table depicts the zone wise trend in employment in organized sector. There was an increase in employment in Western Zone (3.4%) followed by Northern Zone (1.8%), Southern Zone (1.8%), North-Eastern Zone (1.8%), Eastern Zone (1.1%) and 6
Central Zone (0.8%). Whereas there was decrease of employment in Andaman & Nicobar Islands (-0.8%). 7
