Spring 2017 Dear HOBY Corporate Board Presidents, Leadership Seminar Chairpersons, Alumni Advisors, and Directors of Junior Staff; We are pleased to announce that the next Advanced Leadership Academy (ALA) is scheduled for July 6-11, 2017 at Loyola University Chicago s Lakeshore Campus in Chicago, IL and you have the opportunity to change the life of a deserving junior staff member or alum at your site! HOBY International is providing you with a $355 ALA Scholarship to award to an outstanding high school junior or senior to be used toward the registration fee of $1250 for the Summer 2017 ALA. The ALA is an amazing opportunity for students to put leadership theory into practice. We want to make sure every site across the United States and Canada has the opportunity to send at least one representative to receive this next level of training, based on the college text Leadership for a Better World, with transferrable college credit included with the program through George Mason University. How you select the recipient is up to you. Post-ALA Tour Program CHICAGO HIGHLIGHTS July 11 13, 2017 Extend your stay in Chicago! This optional extended stay and chaperoned tour will allow you and fellow Project Managers to explore the Windy City after the ALA. On July 11th, students move to the Loyola University Water Tower Campus in Downtown Chicago, which makes a great starting point for each tour day. Be sure to add this tour to your ALA registration! Because of your outstanding leadership skills, you have been selected to represent your site at HOBY s 2017 Summer Advanced Leadership Academy (ALA) scheduled for July 6-11, 2017 at Loyola University Chicago, Chicago, IL. The ALA is an amazing opportunity, and you will be receiving a scholarship to assist with the cost of attending this program. Through the HOBY Advanced Leadership Academy, you will: Understand the seven dimensions of the Social Change Model of Leadership (SCM) and how they work together to accomplish the eighth dimension, change; Use Gallup s StrengthsFinder assessment to identify and understand you own strengths and capabilities; Get practical project management training and tools; Create a project action plan to lead and implement a service project or social enterprise in your home community within one year following the ALA; Form a relationship with a working professional who will serve as your project coach for one year; Meet new people and establish an ongoing network of peers, other leaders and social entrepreneurs; Earn college credit; and Have Fun! Before we close our program, it is my pleasure to share with you an exciting opportunity available to all HOBY Alumni. HOBY s Advanced Leadership Academy (ALA) is designed for high school juniors and seniors who want to activate and lead change in their communities. Participants are immersed in college-level curriculum that invites them to enhance their self-knowledge and leadership development while facilitating positive social change. After students spend time discussing and learning about the role of leaders in transforming communities, they craft a one-year project action plan around a specific service or social enterprise. They return home as change makers equipped with leadership skills, project management knowledge, and support from ALA project coaches as they implement their projects and advance positive change in their communities. Can you imagine five days of HOBY dedicated to putting your leadership motivation into action while earning transferrable college credit? That s right the HOBY Advanced Leadership Academy comes with college credit! The next ALA will be held at Loyola University Chicago from July 6-11, 2017 in Chicago, IL for students who have finished their junior or senior year of high school. There is a program fee of $1250 to attend and you must provide your own transportation to Chicago. Spaces are limited. Our site was given the opportunity to grant one spot and a partial scholarship in the amount of $355 to a deserving high school junior or senior. This individual puts leadership into practice and will represent our site at the program. Ambassadors, every one of you is eligible and encouraged to attend the Advanced Leadership Academy next summer after your junior year. I just want to say each member of our junior staff is amazing. There are many wonderful roads and experiences in life and we are grateful to have spent a few short but rewarding days with you. Thank you for your volunteer service to HOBY.
