REPORT Learners' Engagement Activity -2014 Organized under UNFPA-MHRD supported Adolescence Education Programme Regional Center: CHANDIGARH Date: 19-11-2014 Venue: NIOS, REGIONAL CENTRE, YMCA COMPLEX, SECTOR- 11 C, CHANDIGARH, 160011 No. of participating AIs: 13 No. of participating Tutors: 13 No. of participating Learners: 101 Inaugural Ceremony Inaugural ceremony of the Learners Engagement Activity -2014 was organized in the open ground area of Regional Centre Sector 11/C Chandigarh. The posters prepared by the learner s for the competition were displayed in the open ground area, for participants, guests and other public. Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Honabl e Cabinet Minister of Finance and Planning, Govt. of Punjab was the Chief Guest. The LEA fair was inaugurated by Hon ble Minister at 12.30 P.M. Dr. T.N. Giri Regional Director, Regional Centre NIOS Chandigarh welcomed the Hon ble Minister and briefed about the programmes and activities carried out by NIOS. The programme began with a welcome song prepared by the staff of NIOS Regional Centre Chandigarh. The NIOS song was played.

Activity 1 Role Play The Role Play activity was presented by the learner s of eight AI s as per theme and guidelines of NIOS of LEA fair-2014 in the presence of Hon ble Minister. The Role Play presented by the learner s delivered the message about cleanliness, women empowerment, global warming, noise pollution and corruption etc. The Role Plays were selected from the ones identified from the study materials. Thirty one learner s of Thirteen AI,s & AVI,s participated in the Creative Writing Competition. Topics as per guidelines of LEA-2014 of NIOS were given to the learners. The learner s showed keen interest in creative writing. They wrote about Environment, Importance of NIOS Programmes. I am a happy learner, I don t fear exams, NIOS opens the door to a better future etc. The learners from Punjab showed hesitation in taking part in the competition due to language problem because the participants were to write in Hindi or English, not in Punjabi. However, they got over their initial hesitation and tried their best in expressing their thoughts in a language they were not very comfortable in. Both girls and boys showed equal participation. Activity 3 Poster Making Competition:Thirty learners from AIs and AVIs participated in the Poster Making Competition. The material was supplied by the NIOS, Regional Center Chandigarh. Four hours time was given to the learners to make posters. The theme as per guidelines LEA -2014 was given to the participants. The posters prepared by learners were displayed in the arena of the courtyard for the exhibition. The Hon ble Cabinet Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa observed all the posters prepared by the participants with great interest. He appreciated the learner s effort for depicting ideas through colors.
