Academic Excellence, Faith Formation, and Service to Our Community since 1952 General Information Mission Statement St. John Catholic School is a Catholic parish PreKindergarten through 8th grade school serving our families and those from the neighboring areas and surrounding communities of San Lorenzo. Our dedicated faculty and staff, in partnership with the parents, offer our students a quality academic foundation. We teach for skill development, intellectual enrichment, and academic and physical excellence. We challenge and prepare our children for future growth in today s society. We nurture a Catholic atmosphere in which the values, traditions and ideals are fundamental to our academic vision for cultivating faith formation, personal integrity, and lifelong learning. Philosophy Statement St. John Catholic School provides quality education in a caring, Catholic environment. The teachers, staff, and students endeavor to model the example of Jesus Christ throughout their daily lives, in the classroom, and in weekly worship together. We foster enthusiasm for lifelong learning. We support and encourage parents, as the first and foremost educators of their children, to strengthen the intellectual, spiritual, social, physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of each child. We celebrate the cultural diversity of our community and believe that our respect for each individual will strengthen selfesteem and regard for others. It is in this atmosphere that our students and families can learn to bring about dynamic change in the areas of human dignity, freedom, peace, and social justice.

Academic Excellence, Faith Formation, and Service to Our Community since 1952 History History of our School In 1949 and 1950, the parish community of St. John s actively campaigned to raise funds to build St. John Catholic School. In September 1952, the Sisters of the Presentation in San Francisco started grades 13, with 154 students. In 1959, a wing extension was added at right angles to the main building, completing St. John Catholic School with 16 classrooms. During the 1960s, there were 12 Sisters of the Presentation on the school staff. When the Sisters of the Presentation in San Francisco could no longer effectively staff St. John Catholic School, they invited sisters from Presentation Convent, County Limerick, Ireland, to come and continue the educational work in the spirit of Nano Nagle, their founders. Four Presentation Sisters came to St. John Catholic School from Ireland in 1971. In 2006 we added PreKindergarten to meet the changing needs of our community and to help our young learners prepare for a lifetime of excellence and achievement. Today, St. John Catholic School is a singlestream school with grades PreK8. Our current enrollment is 232 students. The enrollment includes students from neighboring parishes and the surrounding communities as far away as Oakland and Livermore families travel to be Shamrocks and share in the special spirit of our community!
