Fostering a Community of Learners PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE I hope you all had a relaxing winter break and a good start to the new year. We have a lot of exciting things happening at the high school and if you have been in the parking lot recently I am sure you notice that the building project is well underway. The plan is to move in to that area at the end of April and we are very excited for the changes. We appreciate everyone s flexibility as we work through the building construction. There is also a lot of testing information that we need to share with you especially if your child is in eleventh grade. Please mark your calendars with some of the important dates below and don t hesitate to call the high school office if you have questions. For the fourth year in a row the Department of Public Instruction is requiring all 11th grade students in the state of Wisconsin to take the ACT Plus Writing Test and the ACT WorkKeys Test. The tests will be administered across the state on February 27 and 28. The test results will be used in several ways: 1) As a reportable score for college entrance for individual students who choose this option, 2) As a measure of our school s academic achievement in comparison with schools across the state (State Report Card), 3) As a tool for LCASD to improve curriculum and instruction for all students. Clearly these tests are extremely important to our schools and to individual families. We will publish a more detailed testing schedule within the next month, but testing will take place during the morning on the dates above. The following adjustments will be made to the school days on February 27 and 28 in order to provide the best possible environment to assist in our students success. On February 27th, only 11th graders are required to report to school. Breakfast and snacks will be provided throughout the testing period. After testing is completed 11th graders will be dismissed for the day and will return on February 28 for the WorkKeys test. February 28 will be a normal school schedule and all students are required to attend. All 11th grade parents please make all possible arrangements to have your son or daughter be in attendance and well-rested on those days. Doctor s appointments, etc. should be avoided if at all possible as make-up testing is required and will result in additional missed class time. In order to prepare to perform as well as possible, we will be offering multiple tutoring/test-prep sessions that will continue through the week of February 20th. Teachers will discuss questions from the practice tests, discuss test-taking tips, and share resources that the student can access on their own time. All juniors took a Pre-ACT test last October and that information will be used to prepare students for the upcoming test. Some practice sessions are optional but we would ask you to strongly encourage your son/daughter to sign up for one or more of these opportunities. In addition, we are requesting all juniors to attend an ACT prep session on Wednesday, February 7 during early release time. We are asking all juniors to stay in the building from 2:00-3:30 p.m. to participate in ACT prep sessions geared towards their individual needs. We look forward to seeing you at some of our upcoming sporting events and activities. My best to you and your families as we move through the second half of the school year. Hard to believe we are already half way through the school year. Go Mustangs, Tony Bird Principal LCHS & LCCPA

Post Graduation Party Planning Donation letters have been sent out for Post Grad night and those donations have already started rolling in. Please mark your calendars for the Post Grad committee meeting February 21, 2018 at 6:30pm in the HS Auditorium. To make it easier to attend this meeting, we are having it the same night as Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you would like more information or want to volunteer now, please contact Ashley Schmalz at the high school via email at aschmalz@littlechute.k12.wi.us. We are anxious to hear from you. Junior Parents - Post-Prom Sign Up! Junior Prom 2018 will be held on Saturday, April 14 with Post-Prom being held at Rusch s Bowling from 12:00 am ~ 3:00 am. Seniors are allowed to attend the dance only, unless they are accompanied by a Junior, then they are welcome to dinner and post prom festivities. Prom is provided and supervised by LCHS faculty and prom court parents. Post-Prom is the responsibility of the entire Junior class. A brief meeting was held the night of conferences on December 13. In order to have a successful prom and post-prom, we need the help of everyone. There are 2 committees that we need volunteers for; The Prize Patrol committee which is chaired by Jennifer Lillge and Jackie VanDeurzen and the Food Committee which is chaired by Gracie Mueller and Tammy Plate. Please contact any of the above named parents to help assist with Post-Prom. HELP! We Need Your Cooperation! More and more we find students are directly calling or texting parents when they don t feel well and want to go home; bypassing student health services. Please remember ALL students must be seen by the school nurse or health aide before going home ill. While students like to avoid this step, it is crucial in monitoring contagious illnesses in our population. If your child is home ill with a fever, remember they must be fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT any medication (Tylenol, Advil, etc.) in their system before returning to school.
