Individual Graduation Plan Meetings TL Hanna High School School Counselors

Video Session 1

What is an IGP? An IGP is a plan that is developed for a specific student in relation to their high school graduation, post secondary plans, and future career goals. The School Counselor works with the student and guardian to develop this plan. Meetings begin in 8 th grade and are conducted each year to update the plan accordingly.

Updates We are incorporating exciting new updates with IGP s this year. Students will watch a series of videos during Advisory that will address the many topics that have been shared during IGP meetings in the past. Parents may watch these videos when their schedule allows. We will still discuss your individual plan for high school graduation and plans for after high school. However, providing the rest of the information to students and parents in advance will reduce the amount of time missed from the student s class and the parent s personal and work schedule.

Topics covered during videos Graduation requirements SC Grading Scale Available resources Scholarships SAT/ACT and other tests Career Goals and Exploration High School course information

Naviance Naviance is a resource to help you prepare for your future. Your Plan At your IGP meeting, we will map out your graduation requirements. We will also discuss the additional class requirements for 4 year colleges in South Carolina as they relate to your future plans. Your specific career choices and plans will also be discussed. During your individual meeting, we will also discuss the specific classes that you would like to take next year, so come prepared!

Grading Scale In the 2016-2017 school year, South Carolina started using a 10 point grading scale which is weighted based on the level of the course (CP, Honors, AP/College) and the specific numerical average (90, 91, 92 rather than A ) Every point a student earns is calculated into their GPA. Every assignment is important! The SC Uniform Grading scale is located on the TL Hanna Guidance website along with instructions on how to calculate the GPA by hand.

Choosing Classes During the IGP meeting, we will discuss class options for the following year. The classes discussed will be related to the student s career interests, post secondary plans, and current performance. There are prerequisites for many courses.
