GA S.T.E.M. RECERTIFICATION GSMST was awarded the GA S.T.E.M. Certification by the State Dept. of Education and was recently awarded recertification for 2017-2022. A science, technology, engineering, & math (STEM) school is one dedicated to the STEM education of every student within the school. The entire curriculum & every teacher are committed to preparing students for careers in a STEM field. Through this certification, the GA Dept. of Education recognizes & supports the critical contributions made by Georgia s STEM programs. NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE GSMST is a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and is recognized as an exemplary high performing school. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. 2017-2018 GSMST TEACHER OF THE YEAR! Congratulations to Mr. Adam Brown, GSMST Teacher of the Year. 2017 AATSP OUTSTANDING TEACHER The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese has named Jamie Vega as the Georgia Chapter AATSP Outstanding Teacher of the Year. GSMST RANKED MOST CHALLENGING HIGH SCHOOL IN GA The Washington Post ranked GSMST No. 27 in the country and No. 1 in Georgia. STAR PROGRAM AWARDS Jobie Johnson has been selected as GSMST STAR Teacher for the 2018 school year. The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia s high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. 2017 GSMST SAT SCORE is 1315 GSMST is 265 points above the state average of 1050. GSMST is 255 points above the national average of 1060. GSMST is 231 points above the GCPS average of 1084. GSMST is 147 points above the next closest Gwinnett HS. ACADEMIC LETTER WINNERS 121 GSMST students earned their academic letter for the 2016-2017 school year. To earn an Academic Letter, the student must have a combined 95% or higher average in all courses taken during the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 school year. 2017 NATIONAL AP SCHOLAR AWARDS 72 GSMST students achieved National AP Scholar recognition. This award is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 4.0 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more AP Exams.

NATIONAL MERIT WINNERS 16 GSMST students have been named semifinalists for the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. ACADEMIC WORLD QUEST GSMST s Academic World Quest teams competed in Nashville at the Tennessee Academic World Quest Competition. Academic World Quest provides students the opportunity to learn more about international affairs through a quiz bowl competition. GSMST Team A took 3rd place and Team B was awarded 6th place. CHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD Competing with nearly 1000 qualifiers from across the country, a GSMST student scored in the nation s top 144 on the American Chemical Society National Exam and earned the ranking of HONORS. CHORUS GSMST s Choral Ensemble received excellent, superior, and perfect ratings. Mixed Chorus earned excellent ratings and a superior rating in sight reading. Advanced Treble Chorus earned superior ratings, and a superior rating in sight reading. Advanced Treble Chorus also received two perfect scores from the judges. 2018 GCPS CARING AWARD A GSMST student was honored as one of the recipients of the county s Caring Award for her charitable work with refugee students and families. 2018 GEORGIA YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD 21st Century Leaders has selected a GSMST student as one of the top 20 youth leader recipients for the 2018 Georgia Youth Leadership Awards. JIANGSU CUP CHINESE SPEECH COMPETITION A GSMST 11th grade student won 1st Place in the event hosted by the Georgia Chinese Language Educators Association. MATH TEAM SY2018 GSMST Math Team Competitions & Awards Lassiter Math Tournament: Varsity Team Best Novice Performance, J.V. Team 5th Place 3rd Place Individual Award UGA High School Math Tournament: 3rd Place Team 15th & 16th Place Individual Awards St. Valentine s Day Mathacre: Varsity Team 5th Place

Kennesaw Math Tournament: Qualifying First Round - 4 Individuals Qualifying Final Round - 1 Individual Georgia Tech Math Competition: 3rd Place Team & 1st Place Group M3 Moody Challenge: GSMST s team advanced to round 2, beating out 700 nationwide contenders. GAME Competition: 7 Individual Awards 2nd Place Grade Level Awards (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th) 1st Place Oralist 2nd Place Overall. Inaugural GSMST Math Tournament: The GSMST Math Team and the GSMST Mu Alpha Theta members hosted over 100 students and 30 teams from across the state in the inaugural GSMST Math Competition. MOCK TRIAL The GSMST Mock Trial team took 1st place in the Mock Trial Regional Competition earning a spot in the upcoming District Competition. Six GSMST students also won individual awards for excellence. The GSMST Mock Trial team ended their 3rd year of competition in the second round of the District Tournament. One GSMST student received the Outstanding Witness Award for the 3rd consecutive year. MODEL UN GSMST MUNC IV: GSMST s Model UN Club hosted the 4th annual Model UN conference. Georgia Tech Model UN Conference: 2 GSMST students representing Norway received Honorable Delegate awards and one GSMST student won the Best Delegate award representing the Democratic People s Republic of North Korea. NATIONAL SCHOLASTIC ART & WRITING AWARD A GSMST student was awarded a silver medal for her painting, On a Cold Sunday Afternoon. ORCHESTRA 7 GSMST students were selected to the Kendall Honor Orchestra and the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony. REFLECTIONS WINNERS Sixteen GSMST students are Reflections winners at the local school level for their competition entries in Literature, Photography, Visual Arts, Musical Composition, and Dance Choreography. These students will now compete at the county level competition in January.

GSMST students received the following awards at the county level: 2nd Place - Literature 2nd Place - Musical Composition 1st Place - Photography 1st Place - Visual Arts 2nd Place - Visual Arts 1st Place - Dance Chorography State Level Reflections Winner - A 10th grade GSMST student was awarded 1st place in the state for her Visual Arts 2D submission. ROBOTICS GSMST s VEX Robotics teams 675D and 675E took 1st place at the Warrior Invitational. Both teams received Team Champion Trophies and team 675E also won the Prestigious Design Trophy. All six GSMST VEX teams will now compete in the Georgia State Championship. GSMST s Robotics Team 675D won 1st place in the Georgia State VEX Robotics Tournament. Team 675 Delta will now compete against 564 teams from around the world in the VEX Robotics World Competition in Louisville, Kentucky. SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR 18 GSMST students were awarded 1st place for their entries in the Gwinnett Regional Science and Engineering Fair. These students will advance to the Georgia State Science and Engineering Fair in Athens. 21 students received 2nd place awards and 6 students were awarded 3rd place. Three students were also recognized with special awards from the Society for InVitro Biology, the Brace Family Foundation, and the GCPS Foundation. SCIENCE BOWL GSMST Students took 1st place at the UGA Science Bowl Tournament in Athens. They will now travel to Savannah to compete in the Science Bowl Regional Tournament. The GSMST Science Bowl Team won 1st place in the State Science Bowl Competition and will now compete in the National Competition in Washington DC. SCIENCE OLYMPIAD UGA Science Olympiad Tournament: GSMST Science Olympiad placed 2nd among 28 teams in the 4th Annual UGA Science Olympiad Tournament. GSMST students also received individual medals in Mousetrap Vehicle, Microbe Mission, Dynamic Planet, Thermodynamics, Helicopter, Astronomy, Optics, and Fermi Questions. Forsyth Central Invitational Science Olympiad Tournament: GSMST Science Olympiad teams placed 2nd, 9th, and 12th among 48 teams from 20 schools in the Forsyth Central Invitational Science Olympiad Tournament. GSMST students also received fifteen 1st place individual medals, nine 2nd place medals, and four 3rd place medals.

Brookwood Invitational Science Olympiad Tournament: GSMST Science Olympiad took 3rd place among 60 teams from 35 schools at the Brookwood Invitational Science Olympiad Tournament. GSMST students also received two 1st place medals, four 2nd place medals, six 4th place medals, and seven 5th place medals. State Science Olympiad Tournament: GSMST placed 3rd out of 24 schools at the State Science Olympiad Tournament at Emory University. GSMST students also received six 1st place medals, and four 2nd place medals. STUDENT COUNCIL The GSMST Student Council has been recognized as a 2018 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Student Council. The Gold Council of Excellence is awarded to student councils for implementing a strong leadership program that meets council goals; functioning in an ethical and responsible way; and engaging others in leadership, spirit, civic, and service activities. The GSMST Student Council attended the GASC State Leadership Convention at Rock Eagle and brought home numerous awards which included: The GASC Council of Excellence Award 1st Place in Senior Speech Competition 2nd Place for Outstanding Leadership Project 1st Place for Outstanding Fundraising Project 1st Place for Outstanding Community Service Project 2nd Place for Outstanding Citizenship/Patriotism Project Two GSMST students were elected as 2018-2019 District 2 Representatives and one student was awarded a $1000 Senior Scholarship. TSA GSMST s Technology Student Association competed against over 100 high schools at the Fall Leadership Conference at Jekyll Island. GSMST had the fastest time in the Armada Boat Race and took 1st place overall. GSMST VEX team 675D took 1st place in the VEX tournament and team 675A made it to the semi-finals.
