Welcome to the Summer Term 2018 After a short and busy Spring Term, we welcome our Sherborne Primary Family back to the start of an exciting Summer Term. For some of our students, this will be their last year at our school and know we will endeavor to make their last term one to remember! Our Summer Term includes: Sports Day / End of Year (Yrs 5 & 6) Play / Eco Day / Eco Countryside Walk / Dragon s Apprentice/ School Choir Concerts / Forest School Activities / Welcoming our new Reception Children / Brenscombe Residential Visit for Year 6 / SATS for KS1 & KS2 (as well as the National Phonics Check for Yr 1 pupils) / PTA Summer Fayre & Sponsored Bounce / NEW PTA funding KS1 Playtrail / Whole School Activities Week / Yrs 3 & 4 + Yrs 5 & 6 Girls Football Tournaments / Area Athletics Championships / Quad Kids Athletics / Area Rounders Tournament / Area Cricket Tournament / North Dorset Cricket Tournament / Area Swimming Gala.. With such a busy term we would STRONGLY advise that you download this newsletter with the various dates for the events above attached, for your reference (also available on the web-site / Facebook Page) Welcome and Goodbye to Staff We sadly have said goodbye to Mrs Stent (SENCO) who has furthered her career to become a Deputy Head; she is ably replaced by Mrs Beatson. We have also said goodbye to Mrs Stansfield (KS1 TA) & Mrs Pundyke in the office. We will also be saying goodbye to Mrs Watson (our Parental Support Advisor) who will be leaving us at the end of the summer term to fulfil a life long ambition of becoming a mid-wife. We warmly welcome Mrs Goddard into our office and to Mr Alan Valentine who will become our new Parental Support Advisor from September 2018. Summary of a Brilliant Spring Term 2018 Sherborne Primary enjoyed good sporting success with a bronze medal in the Year 5 Tag Rugby as well as coming 4th in the Dorset wide Davidson Football Cup. Our Reading, Reciting & Debating Competition demonstrated how brave and competent our children are at reading aloud and how they are doing so well in their future lives arguing their point! Our Reception children thoroughly enjoyed meeting the emergency service personnel and their vehicles. World Book Day and Book Week was exciting, particularly during the Snow Days Mother Nature threw at us! Also a huge thanks to our PTA for organising our Adult Quiz and the various Easter events such as the very popular Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Egg Decoration Competition SCAPA Breakfast Club and After-school Club Please contact the School Office in school hours on 01935 812619 and/or SCAPA out of school hours on tel: 01935 810001 to enquire about bookings. Opening times are 8:00am until 8:55am and 3:30pm until 6:00pm during term time. Booking for term time have become very popular to ensure a place please book on-line in advance. Spring Bank Holiday SCAPA programme will be on our website very shortly. School Uniform and Summer Weather Clothing / Protection A brief reminder that we encourage all of children to bring in water bottles for the summer term (& hopefully hot weather!) We would also welcome all parents to apply sun cream to their child / ren when the weather is appropriate and provide a hat / sun glasses if needed. We would also ask children to have their PE kit in school so that

their teachers can take the opportunities that the warm weather provides for outdoor learning and exercise. Online Payments and Bookings To support everyone with saving time we would strongly recommend utilising our School Money online payment system to pay for things like SCAPA and school trips etc. This will again save queuing at our busy office hatch. Please click on our web-site for the link and more information. This will be found under Parents School Money https://www.schoolmoney.co.uk Welcome to our New Students & Families As always at this time of year, we welcome our new Reception students and families to our Sherborne Primary Family. I know that Mrs Maskew and her team will be visiting all of our feeder playgroups and each individual child s family prior to our new children starting full-time. We wish them every success in their educational career. Activities Week - Monday 16th - Friday 20th July 2018 The school has organised a very exciting Activities Week linked to sport and exercise to encourage our children to get up and get active. This will include ALL of our KS2 children going sailing and a range of external visitors coming into school to show our children a range of other sporting activities. Thank you to Miss Layton for kindly co-ordinating these exciting events! PTA Sponsored Bounce (Wednesday 23rd May - am) & Summer Fayre (Friday 6th July - 3:30pm onwards) PLUS - NEW KS1 Playtrail! Our PTA continues to go from strength to strength and have organised two exciting events for the summer term. The first is our Sponsored Bounce which raises a great amount of funding and is great fun for all! The PTA have also been working on creating another amazing Summer Fayre which will include the usual array of stalls, events, refreshments etc. More information to follow. All of their hard work (and your very kind donations and support) have led to the forthcoming installation of a new KS1 Playtrail which will be placed in the back KS1 playground (this was after many parents / carers suggested this addition to our facilities last year). A HUGE thanks to Jo Kemp / Caroline Humphreys and their team for co-ordinating our PTA so well! End of Year Events for our Year 6 Pupils As always we try and make the end of summer term special for our Year 6 pupils. This year is no exception with our usual end of year play (please see dates below for more details). We have also included the biannual Dragon s Apprentice which is similar to Dragon s Den and tests our Yr 5 & 6 pupil s business sense, design and mathematical skills (this will be held within the Summer Fayre). We have another new event, a special ADDITIONAL Leavers Service held within Sherborne Abbey alongside our SAST (Sherborne Area Schools Trust) group of school (see below for further details). We also know the children will enjoy their residential visit to Brenscombe! Finally we have (now traditional) Sherborne Primary School end of year Leavers Service on the last day of the summer term this is then followed by our Year 6 Family Picnic within our grounds at lunchtime.
