Term 3 Resumption Newsletter Welcome back to school for the third term. I hope that you have enjoyed the break. We are looking forward to an exciting term with a wide range of events for students and parents. The highlight of the third term, as always, will be the Valedictory Service for the Year 12 students. This year will see the 20 th set of students graduate from the school. As a school, we are proud of the success of our alumni and continue to celebrate them. As parents will know, the Year 12 students have not had a vacation as the WAEC examinations are ongoing. It has been great to see the students working diligently throughout this period, and I particularly thank their teachers and hostel staff who have stayed in school to provide revision classes and support. A major boost to the confidence and determination of the students were their outstanding results in JAMB-UTME. Overall, the school achieved their best results ever and particular credit goes to Olabode who achieved 326 and Aminat who achieved 310 These results, along with the outstanding results in IGCSE last term can give us confidence for the students WASSCE results. Year 10 students also remained in school for an additional week at the end of the second term. This was part of their leadership training. During this period, they worked on the community development project that they had agreed with the local community. They have refurbished the local health centre in Iloko. It was great to see them working together with members of the local community to transform the facility. They will continue to work on improving health care provision in the community in the coming months. Alongside our activities in school, a number of senior students along with staff spent part of the vacation on an excursion to South Africa. Our excursion programmes offer an opportunity for students to enhance their learning outside the classroom by visiting key cultural and historic sites alongside leadership training activities. Students this year have visited locations including Nelson Mandela s house as well as taking trips to Robben Island and Table Mountain. Updates on all school activities are available through our social media platforms. We are on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and can be found @olashoreschool. We also post a weekly news bulletin prepared by students on YouTube. Finally, let me remind parents and prospective parents that admission remains open for September 2018. Our scholarship weekend is fast approaching. The event will take place from 4 th - 6 th May and is open to all students who have accepted a place in Year 7. As a school we are committed to supporting families financially through academic scholarships and other programmes. Currently, almost half of students receive full or partial scholarships/discounts. I encourage parents to take the opportunity of the Scholarship Weekend to invite their family and friends to consider Olashore International School for their ward. Our outstanding academic record, matched with the success of our alumni nationally and internationally provides the assurance that all children joining the school are nurtured to their full potential. Wishing you a safe trip back to school.
