1 GRADES Acquire, understand and use vocabulary by learning words through explicit vocabulary instruction and independent reading, and appropriately use these words in writing. Because Minnesota school districts have different configurations of electives and required courses, the academic standards for grades 9 12 have been stated as Completion Outcomes, which allow for flexibility within the individual districts. Thus, teachers in their local districts are entrusted to implement these standards through their local curricula, methods and lesson plans. I.
