1 Welcome to your Prince s Trust Team This is your chance to discover your skills by getting stuck into exciting activities and challenges You are now part of something very special, along with 10,000 others who take part in Team across the UK every year As you work as part of a team, you will be able to achieve a qualification, think about who you are and what you want to do, and start to make it happen Name: Team:
2 Learning Record This is your Learning Record. You will use it to make plans, record what you do and keep the information for your qualification Plan, Do, Review In every part of your programme, you will learn by planning, taking action, thinking about how you got on and what changes you would make next time. So remember: PLAN DEVELOP DO REVIEW PLAN At the start, you will identify your skills and set targets in your Learning Plan DO Keep track of what you do in your Diary and Activity Reviews. You ll also collect evidence for your qualification REVIEW Every few weeks you will check your progress against your targets with the Team Leader and record this in your Learning Review DEVELOP Each time you check your progress you will set new targets for your time on Team and beyond in your Learning Plan and your Future Plans You can write on the pages in this folder or you can use a computer. 2

13 My Future Plans You ve had a chance on Team to think about who you are and what you want to do in the future. The best way to achieve your goals is to continue using the Plan, Do, Review model. To do this, fill in the plan over the page. It might help to: look at the targets you set in week 1 and think about what you have achieved so far And, think about: what job you want? any courses you need to take? would it be useful to volunteer? do you need to work on your literacy and numeracy? are there other ways The Prince s Trust could support you? 20 The World of Work Weeks 7-9 Weeks 7-8 Work Placement Try out a job to build your workplace skills Work placements give you the chance to: try a particular type of work find out what employers are looking for understand the importance of good time-keeping and attendance in the workplace gain current experience to add to your CV gain a valuable reference from your employer i Work experience is made possible for you by the co-operation of your work placement providers. We rely on you treating the placement with respect so we can get placements in the future. Remember that an important part of work experience is getting on with other people, trying to understand their point of view and fitting in. Simple rules to remember are: Time-keeping matters you must start and finish your working day at the agreed times Let people know if you won t be in you must telephone both the work placement and your Team Leader straight away. If you are too ill, ask someone to telephone for you Look right you must dress appropriately for the type of work Keep off the phone you must not use the telephone (work or personal mobile), or internet at your work placement without permission This is work you should not invite friends or relatives to visit you at your work placement It s not all exciting you may sometimes be given routine or repetitive tasks as part of the job and should respond appropriately Know the rules you must follow the rules and regulations of the work placement provider, in particular, the safety regulations Ask remember always ask if you need help Speak up if things are not working out, tell your Team Leader 20
